When have you applied? We applied on AQA Eng Lit remarking on the result day and heard nothing so far.

Edited

Two subjects were sent off the day after results day, the third was sent the Monday after results day. The exams office received the upgraded grades on Friday and we were told today. So very quick!! And bonus… no charge as they all went up!

Tebheag · 01/09/2026 20:26

@Littletreefrog Good to hear his first day went well.

@makemineadecaf congrats on the upgrades.

Good luck to all kids starring tomorrow.

@XelaM Hope all goes well withe move.

@Monr0e RE, sociology and geography, so unless they're in the same form group they probably won't sit next to each other!

tourdefrance · 01/09/2026 21:36

My DS has induction tomorrow then lessons start on Thursday.
Most of his friends are going elsewhere although he'll know people from school there.
He was doing more bridging tasks today, not sure it's completely done but there was a lot of it.

whereonthestair · 01/09/2026 21:47

My DS has done the bridging work, sent emails of thanks to his previous teachers at his old school but doesn’t start 6th form until Monday. He’s getting nervous but his friends going to same college (schools here don’t have sixth forms) so hopefully it will be okay. He’s gone back to training for his sport today which I think helps

makemineadecaf · 01/09/2026 12:08

Good luck to those starting.

all three of DD’s reviews have gone up and were so thrilled - English literature up by 13 marks!! So only two marks off 100% and a top grade 9. Madness.

Omg that’s amazing

ShesRunningOutTheDoor · 02/09/2026 06:49

First day of 6th form here. Bridging work
mostly done. There was a lot, lessons start Thursday

NotDarkGothicMama · 02/09/2026 07:33

Good luck to everyone starting their next chapter this week.

DS was off to sixth form early this morning. He came back home in a panic because he'd missed the bus. I gently reminded him that the bus comes every 10 minutes and waved him off again. Now stalking his location to make sure he changes bus at the right place and gets there on time!

waitingquietly · 02/09/2026 11:55

DS2 doesn’t start till this time next week as he stayed in Private - though DS1 starts Friday - lots of people seem to have started quite early - we have a couple of inset days here for the state schools .

A little concerned to see how many kids start in the sixth form at DS2s school - I think less than half stayed . Small classes can be great but I think there is definitely such a thing as too small - especially if they are doing subjects where ideas are being bounced around 🤞

Walkingbkwrm · 02/09/2026 12:33

Well think we missed a letter somewhere as DS1 left and came back less than 2 hours later to inform me that he only needed to be at school for an hour (probably less tbh) and slightly upset that a) he didn’t get his lanyard (best bit of sixth form apparently) and b) he now didn’t know what to do with his day as he had expected lessons…. I suggested logging on to the school app with his new login and seeing if the teachers had posted anything and he thought this was a terrible idea. Ah well, hopefully tomorrow!

FlyingPandas · 02/09/2026 12:36

DS also staying at his (indie) school for sixth form. Induction day on Friday and then term starts properly from Monday. He’s chuffed as he’s won some prizes for GCSE achievements, including a subject prize for one he really really worked hard for, so we’ll be off to prize giving later in the month. Still bugger all bridging work done so I just hope he doesn’t get a baptism of fire next week!

Interestingly the vast majority of DS’s indie year group have stayed @waitingquietly but I was shocked at how few stayed at our local state school (where i invigilate) for sixth form last year. From a year group of over 200, only just over 60 stayed. They’ve pushed really hard to try and increase that for this coming year. Definitely agree that there is such a thing as a too-small subject cohort.

Good luck to all of our DC for their new adventures!

waitingquietly · 02/09/2026 13:16

@FlyingPandas I think here there is a big push to get into Grammar sixth form - there is also a very competitive state option too

Walkingbkwrm · 02/09/2026 14:21

How do you know how many people stay on? DS1 did say there were surprisingly few people there today but from him that could mean anything! Will be interesting to see how big his classes end up being as I know the local college had a big recruiting drive.

Sorry for the stupid question, but how do you know if papers have been submitted for remarks?

DDs dance teacher got in touch the afternoon she picked up her results and asked for permission to request her exam paper as she was 1 mark of an 8, we haven't heard anything since.

Today, her drama teacher has emailed as she is 1 mark off an 8 in drama also

If we don't hear anything does that mean the teachers don't think a remark will make a difference? Or do they go ahead anyway? Just curious as some already ha e remark results whereas others as still being looked at.

JTro · 02/09/2026 16:29

We've just received remarking results for AQA Eng Lit, her markes rasied by 30(!!!), so from grade 6 my DD raised to grade 8 (1 mark away from 9), that's exactly how all her mocks were, 8-9 all the time (we were surprised she got 6)! I am speechless to be honest re marking of AQA papers!

Teachers can't put in for reviews of marking - it has to be done by the student requesting it. I've emailed a couple of my students today - one to say "leave it" and one to say "go for it"

Monr0e · 02/09/2026 17:10

Ah ok, thank you. So if they think it is worth it they will let us know so we can request it. Thats very helpful.

I will wait to see if I hear from them and if not then presume they felt the marks were correct

Or give them a week and then follow up with them.

Wow!! I thought our 13 marks was huge but that was just one paper.

Callmejudith · 02/09/2026 17:50

Wow @JTroyou’ve given me the impetus to email DS teacher. Hopefully it’s not too late

Sixth form starts tomorrow!

That's an amazing amount, almost sounds like they missed out marking a whole section or something. It would be nice to think if the marking is found to be that incorrect all the paper would be checked again. I imagine there are a lot of kids out there for one reason or another don't get papers remarked that could also get improved grades if they did.

Oops quoted the wrong poster but this was in relation to the poster with a 30 mark increase.

FatLarrysBanned · 02/09/2026 19:39

DD started 6th form today. Phoned me very excitedly to tell me she's swapping A Level History for Drama 🙈 but keeping English Lit and Politics. Oh well, if it makes her happy, that's the main thing, she really has had a tough few years and deserves a bit of joy in her life.

She has been out of school since Yr8, so her actually getting the grades she needed for 6th form is nothing short of miraculous.

Good luck to those starting tomorrow and @Littletreefrog your lad sounds fab, what a bloody trooper he is!

NotDarkGothicMama · 02/09/2026 20:17

@JTro that's incredible, and quite concerning TBH. Well done your DD!

DS enjoyed his first day of VIth form. He knew a few people from football, went out for pizza at lunchtime and is delighted with the concept of a sixth form common room. No lessons today but plenty of pep talks and he got his timetable.
