Dd got a 5 in AQA in English Lang but it doesn’t say her score. Every other subject I can see how she did. Anyone else have their score or is this common for English Lang? I guess the school would contact us if she was 1 mark off a 6?

My DC had scores for some GCSEs and not others on their grade slip. If you are concerned you can contact the school.

Personally I think reviews of marking, unless vital for future steps, are probably not worth the bother. DS2 was one mark off a 7 in CS and I asked him, but he said he had thought he would get a 5 so was more than happy with a 6!

Does she need a 6 in Eng lang going forward? Some unis ask for it for all courses – UCL comes to mind if that is a possibility.

It's an anomaly of the software as they have to give the grade for the speaking assessment. The school will have the marks for each paper. This is raised by someone each year.

Ah ok… she needed a grade 5 so we are all good really but she was hoping for a 6 possibly even a 7. She got a 7 in English lit. I’m guessing the school would let us know if they thought it was worth doing a remark?

They might, but they will be concentrating on the 3/4 kids and those that don't have enough for their next steps.

So if you want to know then ask.

We had a review done of English Lang last year as incredibly low mark in the creative writing paper. Was way off the grade boundary for the next grade up.

Review came back with 8 extra marks, two grade increase on that paper (almost 3) and a grade increase overall.

Don't go by how far off the grade boundary, go with whether the mark seems realistic for the child.

Yeah ours were listed separately for Eng lang - they gave all the grades and overall rolled up scores for each gcse, and another sheet with all the component paper-by-paper separate marks. The Eng lang ones were listed in there but not in the overall one, it just gave the grade.

English often doesn't appear because of issues with how MIS output data. It's not an exam board or school failure... it's because they haven't report the grade and the spoken lang mark.

Contact the school and they will tell you.

One mark off a grade boundary is neither here nor there though. I've contacted students where I think there are weird scores, but not about proximity to boundaries.

It's not a remark. It's a review of marking. No one is looking for marks, so if she's got what she needs then they're unlikely to be concerned, unless something looks weird in the question level data.

It's a problem with the MIS that schools use to manage data. They will have the scores but the requirement is to publish the overall grade and the spoken language mark - and the MIS can't deal with more than 2 fields.

Ask the exams officer or the HOD or the teacher. They will be able to tell you.

@MrsHamletthankyou. She got a D which is a distinction? Always predicted 6+ and awarded a 4
