Wasn't sure where to put this but im starting to look at laptops for dd starting year 7 in September.
I dont personally own one so have not got the 1st clue what I need to buy.
Nothing too expensive, needs to be brand new and something she can do her school work on.
Can someone point me in the right direction please?

What is your budget @Ilovechristmasfalalalalalala ?

That's the key element. The more you spend, the better the laptop will be. People will recommend x or y make but if you are looking at a PC (as opposed to a Mac) the main difference will be whether it cost £300 or £1,000. Or something in between.

She can do her schoolwork on something cheap and basic; but if she wants it to last through school and be used for more than just writing on Word and making PowerPoints, then you will need to spend more.

Chromebook is more than suitable. This is what my sons school have given each pupil

Do the school recommend anything? Will she need to carry it to school or just use it at home? DCs went to an iPad school where they were given an iPad and we paid a monthly donation. Some schools will be ok with a Chromebook but not all. Look out for educational discounts or refurbished models if you are on a tight budget.

I think mostly used at home with the odd lesson needing it in.
School have not recommended one but good shout as il ask in September.
£300 is the budget with the hopes it will last for a fair few years.

Oh yeh if £300 is your budget then I would look for a mid-range Chromebook. Should be fine for what she needs tbh.

Wait and see whether school operates more on google or Microsoft.

Thanks for the help. I will see what they say come september with regards to how much use it will get and what system they operate on but in the mean time start looking at chromebooks.

We found an iPad with keyboard case (generic not Apple) and e-pen was much better than a laptop.
DD used that from Y7 onwards.. lighter, holds charge better and you can take photos of the board, or diagrams.

Oh I would never have thought of that! Will look into it, thank you.
