Nishkam school Osterley review

Hello, my child got accepted to Nishkam school in Osterley for year 7. He also has acceptance from Isleworth and Syon school. Nishkam obviously has Outstanding rating, however seems like not very diverse in terms of school crowd as being a faith school. I am looking for first hand feedback from parents who have their children in either of the schools.

Are you a Sikhi family? I believe the Nishkam school is a Sikh based faith school, no? I have heard good things about it.

Isleworth and Syon is boys only and I have not heard good things about it.

You can only be offered one state school, I thought?

Maybe they had an offer from one school on NOD back in March and now have been offered the other from the WL as it was higher up on their choices? So they have to decide between the two.

We are not Sikh. Could you please let me know what have you heard about I&S school. We applied for Nishkam as it has Outstanding rating in all categories. Our only concern about this school lack of diversity.

Just that as it's a single sex boys' school, the behaviour can be very boisterous.

Op you didn't research into the schools at all? Apart from Ofsted. A cursory search would have flagged that it's a faith school. This is a very odd post.

We don’t mind that it’s a faith school. School does not offer open day, which is a surprise, so as parents we are blinded. We wanted to get a feel of the school, children and teachers before making decision.

Have you looked online? I think there might be some videos you could watch.

According to its website, the Nishkam school is all-through, oversubscribed in all year groups and with no formal point of entry at year 7. So that could possibly explain two offers - ?the Nishkam application would have been a mid-year one, not part of the coordinated admissions scheme for year 7 entry. And the absence of an open day - you wouldn't expect a secondary phase one for a school which only admits formally at year R and year 12, and this is actually stated on the website. The primary phase open evening was back in November.

There are videos on the website, although the secondary one is not entirely recent, as one parent talks about how great the online provision from the school was during lockdowns, for his 'currently year 8' son.

As for a 'lack of diversity'... from his photo, the secondary phase HT does look pretty much as his very Irish name suggests?

I live locally. I&S boys can be very boisterous and I’ve seen a few kids being picked on in the past (although not this year, actually) I’ve also seen lots of good behaviour after school whilst they wait at the bus stop, just chatting in their groups.
Seems very diverse too.

My child doesn’t attend there though, so can’t comment on that! Sorry
