To think we have wasted our money on this tutor,

DC has been with an online maths tutor for 2 years and only achieving 2 in GCSE mocks. I asked the tutor what is the likelihood of DC achieving at 4 and he said there is hope but he will likely get a 2 or 3.

He is probably not practicing as much as he should; but he is doing ok on the other subjects so something isn’t working for DC with maths; maybe the fact is s online or the methodology the teacher is using doesn’t work for DC. I blamed myself for not being more on top of it; but maybe the tutor should have mentioned this before.

I just feel we have wasted thousands of pounds there.

You say your DS is doing well in science - how does he cope with all the maths involved there?

Have you ever sat in on one of his tutor sessions - does he engage with it at all, or is he just playing on his phone or similar?

What have school said? Surely they are giving him extra support if he is only working at level 2? Why aren't you chasing them?

It is strange your friend found SW1P Educators and you need to look them up when on another thread you post as though SW1P is your business.

I really don't believe online tutors are as effective as in-person one-to-one tutoring with the right tutor. Sometimes a lack of effort can be due to a failure to understand and maybe your DS just isn't grasping the necessary concepts - that in itself will be demotivating for him. I think you need to try and find out what the problem is before you can hope to resolve it.

Having worked in all sides of education now, this isn't true, it's what best fits the child, not online vs in person overall.
