That’s despicable. I’m so very sorry to hear this.

ShesRunningOutTheDoor · 14/05/2026 12:49

My son a bit deflated after Edexcel higher maths. He didn’t solve a couple of the harder questions and now feels a 9 out of reach. He had revised so hard as well!!!

Wolfiefan · 14/05/2026 12:46

FFS I have just missed a call from the school. Apparently DD didn’t have the formula sheet she should have had. I’m really worried now. Waiting for a call back to find out what actually happened and WTF they are going to do about it. If it’s a school mistake anyone know how to proceed with a complaint. She was anxious enough about Maths as it was. I’m fuming.

Oh god. Thanks I am so sorry.

LattePatty · 14/05/2026 12:57

Son (who is hoping for a 9, we’ll see!) thought the Edexcel higher paper was ok. He said he could do the harder questions and finished the paper in about half the time (I panicked inside a bit when he said this in case he rushed) and went back and checked everything again.

Oh no @Wolfiefanthats awful. If it was Edexcel Higher non calculator paper son thinks the formula sheet would have been used for about 3 questions.

myladyjane · 14/05/2026 13:02

Edexcel higher here and no bloody news! And I have a work call just as they come home and dds boyfriend is coming round so I won’t get nothing other than ‘fine’. I am just hoping neither cried tbh.

dd1 was revising histograms this morning so maybe she cooked that one.

i really wasn’t expecting this to be as stressful on me as it is. My friend who has twins a couple of years older said she found it really tough and was very sympathetic to me bless her - she has a levels about to kick off so we’re both a bit stressed!

Littletreefrog · 14/05/2026 13:05

@Wolfiefan that's an awful thing to have happened but she won't be the first or last student it happens to unfortunately but what that means is there will be a process so try not to worry too much although I appreciate that is easier said than done and I would be a mess so you do have all my sympathy.

I seem to have won a battle today. The Head of Year said we needed to email every day to ask for special consideration for each exam separately as apparently my son's severe Mental Health condition may magically resolve itself at some point in the next 5 weeks. However having done that for 4 days in a row it seems he has decided they can actually apply for special consideration for all exams and I now no longer have to email him daily to say the exact same thing each day.

WTAF! I would be beside myself with rage. In fact I think I would demand she can go straight back in and redo it with the sheet.

Callmejudith · 14/05/2026 13:08

@Littletreefrog that's great (and also ridiculous in the first place that you had to email everyday)

Finally heard from DS who said "not bad, made a comeback in the second leg" 😅

MabelsBeats · 14/05/2026 13:09

@Littletreefrogwell done for advocating so well on your son’s behalf, glad the school has seen sense.

Caddycat · 14/05/2026 13:14

@Wolfiefan what paper was she doing? I think for DD it is an insert inside the paper, not something your DD would have had to bring in (Edexcel)

beasmithwentworth · 14/05/2026 13:19

Just got a snap from DS (edexcel higher) and he said it was quite a mix but overall pretty good.

He was moved from foundation to higher at Christmas (after starting ADHD meds which really helped him) which I think seemed very late so he has been learning for the first time quite a lot rather than revising these past few months.

He’s predicted a 6 which I think he’d be delighted with after being predicted 4s since year 10 pre medication.

Wolfiefan · 14/05/2026 13:21

It was an insert. The school maintain they did tell students to both read the front of the paper and check they had what they needed. She didn’t. Anxious? Wanting to get started?
She mentioned it at the very end as she saw people handing in the insert. The school contacted the exam board to see if she could have extra time with the insert. No. They are completing a maladministration form and asking for special consideration. But they will compare how she does in paper one and two. And it’s the second paper she’s more worried about. So that doesn’t help. Feel a bit sick.

3GoldenLamps · 14/05/2026 13:22

I just want to hug you both. Thanks

beasmithwentworth · 14/05/2026 13:29

@Wolfiefan that seems so unfair. The onus surely is first and foremost on the school to ensure this and not on an already nervous student to speak up in a huge exam hall because they have made a mistake. That seems very unfair

waitingquietly · 14/05/2026 13:34

@Wolfiefan so sorry for your DD

Wolfiefan · 14/05/2026 14:11

I suppose the only alternative is to get the people putting out the papers to check each and every one. Just gutted for her. She struggles with anxiety and I know would hate to call attention to herself in a hall of the whole of the year.

Roseyposeypie · 14/05/2026 14:12

Anyone else’s DC doing Educas maths (higher)? Won’t hear from DC till much later as there’s a post-school revision session.

Stowickthevast · 14/05/2026 14:19

@Wolfiefan how awful, your poor Dd.

I got my boards wrong, DD actually did Edexcel so seems similar to others, generally good but a couple of tricky questions.

Wolfiefan · 14/05/2026 15:44

DD is home and tearful. It’s been a bit of a day. She has history and sociology tomorrow. I’m just hoping she can put this behind her and focus on that. Poor kid. She has worked so very very hard and is a rather anxious and sensitive soul as it is.

Your poor DD. If it helps reassuring her, DD tells me she didnt use the formula sheet.

Wolfiefan · 14/05/2026 16:01

She said she was fine until the last maybe three questions.

Caddycat · 14/05/2026 16:05

Wolfiefan · 14/05/2026 16:01

She said she was fine until the last maybe three questions.

I'm pretty sure the last 3 questions would be the "9" questions, so she can still get a very good grade without those, and there are 2 more papers. Still, I understand why she is upset, she doesn't need this now, but you can reassure her that it will be fine.

SevenKingsMustDie · 14/05/2026 16:06

DD had OCR maths today - said she ran out of time which she never has before…so who knows?!
She is a solid 5 student who has been working with a tutor as she wants a 7!

BeasKnee · 14/05/2026 16:23

DD found OCR harder than they had hoped. Is trying for a 7 but isn't sure she was good enough (especially with so many people coming out saying it was easy). She always finds the non-calc hardest though. I feel like after all the long wait to get started over the last month, the exams are flying by now.

Dd AQA higher “half good half shit”

What grade is she hoping for ?
