Hi everyone. Does anyone have any thoughts on Gordon's School in West End? We are buying a house there at a massive premium and hoping we are making the right decision. Does anyone know how long you have to have lived in catchment? We will be super close and can see the school from our window pretty much.

According to the information I’ve seen, the catchment is 1500 metres in a straight line from a particular entrance to the school.

We lived in West End for years and sometimes neighbours got their children in and sometimes they didn’t. I don’t know for sure, but I imagine that you just have to have a permanent address within the catchment area, when you make an application. Presumably, you’re looking at 2027, so the date for applications will be October 2026.

Read the admission criteria on the school website it goes into detail about places / yeas and distances.
Unless you are a boarder or forces background then distance doesn’t really matter. Plus other criteria jumps up the list EHCP, CIN etc.

They have good sports grounds my child plays footie there each week but we are not at the school (private elsewhere)

Thank you! Actually looking for a 2028 start so will apply next year in 2027. How did you find living in West End?

Thank you. We are aware of how the distance works but I have heard various rumours about having to have lived there a certain number of years etc before application but I suspect these may not be true or it would say it on the website as a criteria for entry.

Yes their sports facilities are lovely. We will be moving our children from a local private school to Gordon's for senior.

When we moved there, it was a relatively quiet place, although the A322 bisects it. With the amount of building subsequently and the lack of infrastructure, including public transport, it became a very different place. You really can’t manage without cars and it’s difficult for children to get to Woking or Guildford, because the buses meander and are infrequent. The GP surgery is overwhelmed and the parade of shops in Gosden Road doesn’t really cater for day to day stuff.

We lived there for over twenty years and I turned down a job at Gordon’s before I went to a school about twenty minutes drive away.

I’m not sorry we moved.
