Missed the secondary school reallocation by one place and feeling heartbroken

Missed out on reallocation of secondary school by 1 place. 1 😭😭 they took 15 children and we were 16th. I never thought we would get a place on this round being 16th but knowing we were one place away is heartbreaking and I have taken it so much harder than expected.

No real point to my post, just venting. Trying to shield my child from it all. I’m just so sad 😢

That's super positive though as you are currently first! Yes, some late applications may get added in but surely you have a very good chance now from the waiting list. There's always the chance that not all of those 15 accept, or get offered another higher school on the next round.

Thank you, that’s all true. I do worry about people joining and us getting bumped down. It’s 2 months until next round of allocations and that feels soo long away. The uncertainty is awful. Appreciate your positive message, I needed that! X

I anticipate you will secure a place unless you live in a very volatile area with a lot of churn, e.g. families moving in and out, perhaps not of their own volition.

Mummyspider27 · 02/04/2026 20:23

I don’t think I like in that type of area?!

I think what concerns me is this last round you couldn’t add more evidence before the reallocation. However the next round you can, so that is when people can join the list, who never wanted the school originally but are now wanting it and have a higher admission rule than me will bump me down 😔 xx

I have been through this at primary
Ot is a brutal thing to go through. We got a place at the end of July. I hope the same will happen for you. At my kids' secondary, places continued to come up in years 7, 8 and 9 too.

Many LA’s have a second round of allocations which is usually a date in April …(unless this is what you are referring to?). May be worth contacting your LA to find out when this is - the second round of allocations is set up to process late applications, new applications, changes of preference that was received after the national allocation day - being first is a great position and like others have mentioned …movement does occur, and with September a while a way, you are in a great position still if a space becomes available - I wish you luck 👍🏽

Thank you. This was April’s reallocation. There is another in May and June. Just the uncertainty and the wait. It’s towards the end of May which feels miles off. And with people perhaps joining the waitlist ahead of me I worry I will miss out again 😔 xx

Really feel for you, I would be so gutted too. As others have said I am sure you will get a place - I'm sure in May, if not before. Good luck x

That's brilliant news, you are now first on the waiting list. Another place will become available in the next round
