St Johns or Epsom for bright, sporty child

Hi,
We are considering either St Johns or Epsom for our son for 11 plus next year. Does anyone have any recent comparison between the 2?
Our DC is very sporty and quite bright. Both school seems great - I can't really see the difference apart from Saturday school? Is St Johns successful in boys sport?

Anyone have any experience of either school or any thoughts?
Thanks

St John's (Ridgeway) is VERY successful in football, but it's probably the wrong St John's

Why don’t you wait until you have an offer? They have a similar entrance process so you can prepare for both.

Sorry I meant St Johns Leatherhead!

If you are going through the process next year, you would surely apply to both. No need to make a decision yet, if you then receive offers from both, you weigh it up then based on the additional experience that you will have through the process with both schools. Traditionally I expect people would lean towards Epsom as the sportiest but St Johns will also provide plenty of sports opportunities.

Yes agree. Although always good to hear what the schools are like from anyone already there, particularly when not much in it!!

Epsom is far superior in most sports - and has more coaches and investment . This year the girls U18 made the national finals in hockey and won the national Independent Schools Cup. The Boys rugby team were in the national final at Twickenham. The U13 hockey team are through to the finals in Nottingham. The boys first team are through to the London finals in football. they are one of the best schools in the country for cricket (both sexes), Padel and Squash. They have professional golfers , most recently a kid who was on the pro circuit. In addition they cater very well for very bright kids and really squeeze the best out of them . The current headmaster (relatively new) is very well liked and loves sport. Future plans to add even more investment in the sporting set up.

I should add that I have 3 kids there . One is very sporty and the other academic.

St Johns is a lovely school but doesn’t compete (in the main) to the sports offer at Epsom.
