My 16 year old daughter attends a state COE school in Westminster. In the last year she has been trying to cope with very painful periods and gut issues, resulting in many trips to the GP/hospital and time off school (now under 70% for this year). We haven't yet got a diagnosis and therefore treatment is "paracetamol", trying to change diet/rest and prayer until we resolve this. The school are putting a lot of pressure on her and she doesn't feel believed.
My question is, Can any mums recommend a sixth form or college for A level which balances the support to achieve academically with available counselling support, genuine compassion from teachers (and believing her symptoms) and career advice that extends beyond university as next step (ie really STRONG on advice and support for degree apprenticeships/apprenticeships should she not achieve the results she needs to stay at her current school)? (She needs English and Maths at 6+ and rest at 5+ to stay where she is, but with poor attendance she might not attain this. My daughter is also completely unclear what she wants to do as a career.)
I am conscious that deadlines for applications are closing fast. If you have been wowed by the education/compassion co-ed sixth form/college your daughter goes to and and it's within a 60 minute tube journey from E1 (Wapping, London), please share the name of the school/college, what you thought was great about it and I'll check out if there's still time to apply.
I guess if there are any to avoid because they are too strict about attendance or obsessed with school results/image of the school that might also be useful.
Thank you. This is my first post in years to mumsnet.
