Reaching out to other families waiting for the results of yesterday’s CHS Entrance Exam, and those planning for SGS Entrance Exam next week. Busy time!

Hello 👋

My daughter attended the CHS exam and has recieved an invite to interview. We are also attending SGS on Tuesday. I feel more anxious than my daughter. How are uou holding up?

ducksandacorns · 09/01/2026 19:22

Hello! My child has been relaxed throughout which we are pleased about. Invite received for CHS Interview also so obviously thrilled about that. SGS Exam is very different to Cheadle we believe. Hope all goes well for your daughter on Tuesday

Yes they are completely different tests and we wrote it off as experience when she came out thinking she hadn't done well. Reaching the interview stage has definitely given her the boost for Tuesday.

Good luck to your child too!

ducksandacorns · 13/01/2026 18:20

Hope all went well for those children at the exam today!

We have a very tired lady here, but she enjoyed the day. She did say they were taking the papers to be marked as soon as they'd finished so I would imagine a response by the end of the week?

How did your child find it?

ducksandacorns · 13/01/2026 21:09

A tired child here too, but they said they enjoyed it and it went well. Oh I do hope we hear soon but they have hundreds of papers to mark! Do you know how many places are available? Glad all went well for your daughter.

I have no idea. From previous threads on here I have 197 in my head but I'm unsure if thats with or without the junior school.

They usually have approximately 600 applicants but with it being split between the two entrances I couldn't estimate how many were there this year.

Mine said she thought she'd done well but then when she saw how many were in the line for dinner she doubted she'd be ahead of so many children.

Cheadle were quick to respond weren't they so hopefully the same happens here. They were very efficient and seemed to have everything in place.

If we are lucky enough to interview maybe we can ask about places then?

I'm relieved the tests are done though now, I was definitely more anxious than Daughter.

ducksandacorns · 13/01/2026 21:56

It was rather busy!

A sigh of relief in this house too now that the exams are over.

Let's just take the opportunity to have a breather as I'm sure when invites arrive there will be more anxiety 🤣

When do you have your interview at Cheadle? I booked for the 26th in the hope we can tag SGS onto the same day if they use a similar booking system.

Shods · 26/01/2026 13:17

We have just had our interview at Cheadle and I can't really gage how it went. Approximately 360 interviews for 170 places. They didn't discuss the exam results, just asked about favourite subjects, extra curricular etc. DD did well but was disappointed on the way home as she felt she could have said more.

Stockport interview on Wednesday and then the long wait.

Have you had your interviews yet? How did you find them?

ducksandacorns · 27/01/2026 16:18

That sounds positive, well done to your DD. We have interviews this week, haven’t really been thinking too much about them but will be a long wait until offer day!

OP posts:
Shods · 27/01/2026 16:31

It certainly will! We will try and busy ourselves and not give it too much thought. Good luck for uoir interviews 🤞🏾

ducksandacorns · 03/02/2026 10:20

DC now finished with exams and interviews. We have heard that SGS offers approximately 110 places to external applicants (ie. Non SGS juniors)
Does your child have a preference for either school?

OP posts:
Shods · 03/02/2026 10:32

We finished ours last week and while we have tried not to give it much thought, it's felt strange with nothing to work towards.
We've had quite a few chats about how well they have done to complete the tests and get thorugh to interview stage, working on celebrating that as an achievment rather than getting the place. Managing expectations as much as we can as even from interview stage there will be hundreds of children not offered a place.
She likes them both but if 2 offers are on the table Stockport will be her preferred.
Have you ever questioned putting yourselves through this? All along I have been quite assured that we are doing the right thing and then when exam time hit I couldn't help but think why are we putting ourselves through this? Ha ha

We are in the process of moving house though so trying to keep busy with the packing.

Do you have a preference?

ducksandacorns · 03/02/2026 11:03

What you have described fits exactly how we have approached this process, relaxed and with focus on the journey rather than pressure for an offer.
No preference from DC and we do not have links to either school and both are as accessible travel wise.
Gosh you are busy! Hope the house-move process goes smoothly for you all.

I think it's the best way, especially as we don't know how they select tjose to receive an offer. If the children got this far they will likely succeed no matter where they go.

Super busy, we had expected to move once she completes primary, however the landlord had other ideas so a little earlier than expected. Along with illness and car trouble it's been quite a year already 😆

Shods · 20/02/2026 21:01

Well, offers week is almost upon us!

Are the offers sent through email as well as posted do you know?

ducksandacorns · 22/02/2026 13:06

It’s all come around very quickly! I believe offer letters are posted tomorrow to arrive Tuesday, and emails sent Tuesday morning.

OP posts:
Shods · 22/02/2026 13:14

It really has, I expected it would feel more drawn out. I didn't recall reading about the email so that's useful as Royal Mail aren't as punctual as they used to be so told DD to expect a letter at some point this week 😁

ducksandacorns · 24/02/2026 17:18

How did your DD get on?

OP posts:
Shods · 24/02/2026 17:26

Hello, She has done well. We got offered a place at both and Stockport was her first choice but now she wants to do the tours to make a decision.
How did you get on?

ducksandacorns · 24/02/2026 17:29

Congratulations to your DD!
SGS and CHS offers for our child, accepted SGS. Its such a privileged position to be in isn’t it.
