Hello,

I’m moving to the area and have heard positive things about the teaching at Woodbridge high school & the grades are better than other local comprehensives.

However I’ve also heard stories about gang violence & bullying which concerns me- but these are all word of mouth. There is no open day only morning tours so no opportunity to speak in depth with teachers.

Are there any parents of current students at this school who can tell me what it’s really like?

Thanks

I live locally and have only ever heard good things from neighbours whose kids go there - they all rave about it. Not sure about the violence and bullying, I guess there’s an element of bullying at most secondaries. The head is great though and everyone I’ve met is very happy with the school.

DS has attended this school since year 7 and we have been very happy. It is a large school and I’m sure there can be instances of bullying, personally my son has had no issues, but the school work very hard to be inclusive to all pupils with multiple clubs and peer support with bullying in particular.

The intake is socially mixed which I think is a good thing for our young people. My DS and friends have reported no issues with gang violence in school. I would say outside of school in the local area the kids need to keep their wits about them as there is a bit of an issue with mobile phone theft. School have been really proactive about this and linking into met police for support and sharing info with parents. I suspect it’s the same in other areas of London however.

DS got completely stellar grades in GCSE and has chosen to stay at Woodbridge for A levels so from an academic point of view we are also happy.

Catchment has decreased over the last few years due to popularity of the school but if you are in catchment I would strongly advise looking at Woodbridge as an option.
