Anybody in Barnet want to share the positives and negatives about their child’s secondary school?

I’m looking for some perspectives of secondary schools in Barnet. If your child goes to / has recently finished at a school in Barnet, what works and what doesn’t? I’m looking for some really honest appraisals. We have to put our school forms in next month. Thanks very much.

Child in Bishop Douglass. Very pleased with it. It is academically ambitious, strict and seems well run. Quite traditional in the sense of uniform, streaming, detentions for bad behaviour. Lots of awards and praise for good behaviour, effort and achievement, and my child is motivated with work. I feel that they are safe in school, but also on the way home - the teachers wait at the bus stop until the children are on the bus. My child seem to like most of their teachers. There are plenty of interesting clubs from Gospel Choir to History Society. Also trips - to Jamie’s farm, Rome, music trip to Belgium and I think a football trip overseas.

Negatives - not a great deal of choice about languages - they choose french or Spanish in y7 and take it at GCSE. It doesn’t offer D of E, which I think my children seem would have enjoyed. Wide “catchment” so quite difficult to socialise outside school.

Thanks. Is that a catholic school?

Whereabouts are you @Schooloption as obviously Barnet is quite big and not every school will be an option for you

Near Totteridge, but more towards apex corner than whetstone

Ok so Totteridge Academy:

pros - great results, fab headteacher, farm on site, continuous improvement, good pastoral care.

cons - 3 x 100 minute lessons per day

Thank you.

We have also seen Mill Hill County High and QE girls

There aren’t really any ‘bad’ schools in Barnet, certainly not in that part of the borough.
