How long to receive back GCSE review/ remark?

Ichangedmynameonce · 23/08/2025 08:30

My DD has missed her chosen college place by one grade.

She was 1 and 2 marks off a higher grade in two eassy based subjects and we immediately sent them off to be reviewed by the exam board.

The paperwork says 20 days to be returned and there was no option to request it urgently (as the college may review her application if either grade goes up). Can others please share their experience of how long it took?

Thank you

It should come back fairly quickly at this point. The big glut of remark papers come in to the boards a couple of weeks into term and that’s when they go slowly.

Ichangedmynameonce · 23/08/2025 09:18

Thanks @ElizabethVonArnim is fairly quickly days or weeks in your experience? Sorry to labour the point

I’m sorry but it is very much a ‘it depends’ situation. We’ve had them back with a week before, but you can’t guarantee it. Cross your fingers and hold your nerve!

Was it a priority review? Those normally take a few days.

DCorMe · 23/08/2025 10:52

I didn’t think they did priority reviews for GCSE?
Are school sending it off now?

Ichangedmynameonce · 23/08/2025 11:02

School said there is no priority review for gcse. They sent it on Thursday in the morning

Took 9 days for us last year, sent on results day.

LIZS · 23/08/2025 12:52

Ah my mistake

Ichangedmynameonce · 23/08/2025 12:56

Thanks @newmum1976 I hope it worked out for your DC

Did school pay for the remark or did you? My dd was one mark off a pass in Geography and school said they were getting it remarked, but she didn’t need it for her A level options so I’m not too fussed. I’m just not sure if I will have to pay for it?

Ichangedmynameonce · 23/08/2025 22:17

We paid and if it goes up there's no charge

Ah my mistake

Actually you are not incorrect as it depends on the exam board - Edexcel do priority reviews. We paid for this on results day so hope to get an answer next week.

If the grade goes up. If it's only the mark, you still have to pay.

Ichangedmynameonce · 24/08/2025 11:26

@Teabing our DD school told is this wasn't possible but having just checked edexcel you're correct. I'm furious- she does have a place dependent on the outcome and has missed it by one point

I don't understand why they would misinform us. It's geography and its edexcel.

Strange! Hope you get it sorted on Tuesday and fingers crossed for a review in DDs favour 🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾

Because JCQ say that priority review is only for GCE. Edexcel is an outlier.

At this time of year, reviews are pretty speedy anyway.

Thank you both. Planning to try and speak to exam board direct and also school to see if category can be changed to urgent. Fingers crossed.

The exam board will only deal with the centre. And I'd put money on it being in hand already.

You were right @MrsHamlet the school exams officer emailed last night. She has gone up a grade in one and we're still waiting to hear about the other one
