Help! Good schools within Lambeth, South London

Hi all,

it seems like all the schools I like for my son are outside of our catchment area 😔

We will also be applying for some independent schools- but not grammar. (don’t want to overload my son with too much, having done the same with my daughter last year)
All being well, my son will ace the 11 plus and get a scholarship that is affordable for us!

This journey is so tiresome and somewhat scary, and I just want to get it right!

Any tips, suggestions, advice etc would be very much appreciated 🙏🏾

I’m in Lambeth and there are some great schools there. It’s a long thin borough and we applied to schools in Wandsworth, Lambeth and Southwark. You need to check current rules though - I am well out of date. Boys went to an independent in southwark and buses were great. Rarely they got train and occasionally they cycled.

The state application process was incredibly stressful. We thought oldest would go to the nearest comp along with all his friends. But we were 100m too far away. Thought we’d get in if we waited but we didn’t.

good luck!

Thank you…yes, there are a fair amount of good options for independent schools, but particularly near me (Tulse Hill) we don’t seem to be in the catchment area for the greatest schools (State schools that is)

Keeping all my fingers and toes crossed, as this season is proving to be somewhat stressful!

Are you a potential for Pupil Premium? If so many schools offer rengfenced places to some of these students and the catchment is far wider. I think probably not if you are looking at private but it is worth mentioning.

Also Elm Green is on an upward trajectory and near you I think

Oh really? (Though I am not eligible for PP)

I’m on the fence with Elm Green…my husband attended the open day and wasn’t keen. However, I keep hearing good things about it…hmmm…maybe I’ll attend their open evening and see things for myself

thank you
