Hi All
Myself mother of two children. My elder son is 13 yrs and I need urgent advice on resources for maths and English for in year admission for grammar school test(yr 8,9 and 10) or as some people mention-13+ test.
Is there any parent had gone through such kind test for their children?
If yes please guide me.
How to prepare for English ? whether they ask comprehension or writing piece.
Which books are best to refer to?
Do they ask GCSE level questions?
Apologies for asking many questions but as the paper is set by particular school so no one in my known people know about this unlike 11+ exam where you find lot of material ,guidance every where and also your friends also share.

Please guide me.Thank you

Unless you name the actual school, it is unlikely that anyone will be able to give you any constructive advice.

What does the school itself say about the test?

One thing you can do is look at the 'curriculum' section on the school's website and see what the pupils will have covered in the relevant year groups to now and use CGP/ BBC Bitesize to go over the topics that your DS hasn't covered already. DD sat an in-year test for a local grammar school at the end of year 7 (they were tested in Maths, English and Science, but this was 12 years ago - and it was a girls' school, so obviously not the school you're looking at) and this worked quite well for her, as she got a place. And her way of tackling the question on the Maths topic that had slipped through her net, so to speak, probably provided at least a few minutes of entertainment in the staff room.

Where I am the in year admission test is a Cat4 test, depends on age which one, it's different but similar to the 11+ taken in year 5. Ask the school, they should be able to point you in the right direction for familiarisation questions. They mostly prefer that you don't tutor.

A good tutor in your area will know all about the test and will probably even have past papers.
