Gordon's School Surrey - feedback

Hi there, we are considering moving back from NZ for our children to attend secondary school due to the standard of education. We are looking for a great state school option and would be happy with Day Boarding. I just wondered if anyone had kids there and how they were finding it please? My daughter is very academic and sporty whilst my son is a lot more reserved (currently, he's only 7) and needs more nurturing. Do you think the kids manage the longer school day well? Are there other extra curricular activities like dancing available at school too? Is it still hard to get a place for a day boarder? Just so many things to consider! I appreciate any feedback.

It doesn’t have to be a small school to be nurturing or care about the children’s wellbeing. My children have been through Woking High School, and it’s been excellent. It looks like it’s massive, but they divide the 8 classes per year into two halves of 4 classes, and all their lessons are managed via these two halves (ie all the kids in classes 1-4 are in sets together, so they’ll all be mixed in with those 4 classes rather than with all 8, so they get to know people better). The teachers are excellent and they have a great range of subjects etc.

FWIW it’s much easier to get into Gordon’s for sixth form - though there are loads of other choices for sixth form too.

I don’t think I’d regard Gordon’s as a nurturing school.

You could get a train from Woking if you lived in Chobham, but you’d probably need to drive to the station. Woking town centre is a nightmare. If you lived in Horsell, your child could go to Woking High and it’s possible to walk from Horsell to the train station.

Other options are Winston Churchill, in Woking, Collingwood College in Camberley, Tomlinscote in Frimley.
