Hi, If anyone can advice from their experience on what mocks should be taken for HBS? My DD is in year 5 and will be sitting for exam this year. TIA.

No personal experience but our friend’s daughter gave these mocks and found Susan daughtery to be very easy compared to the actual exam.
Is your daughter sitting for any other grammar school? Because Susan Daughtery mocks are good for some other schools.

Susan daughtery nicks are outdated. They are waste of time n money . Real exams are hard. Having said eleven plus exams are way too hard n the real paper is slightly easier than that.

We used Susan Daughtrey for a mock for a different school, which was great as they sat the exam in the actual school, the feedback for it (esp for creative writing) was thorough and helpful. However there wasn’t a huge cohort taking the exam together - 30-40 maybe?

For exam technique/experience - of sitting an exam with 100s of children then we found the Sutton mocks excellent (sgspta I think) - which gave the experience of queuing up around a playground, getting a candidate number. Also my dd found one exam hard, but had to not worry - put it aside and focus on the next. She did two one at the end of may, one in late July.

I didn’t personally use elevenplus mocks, but had friends who did and I had them on the phone crying about poor performance… only for their child to pass the actual hbs exam… so I think they were unnecessarily harsh.

Do these mocks include only Stage 1 format?

Yes I have heard good reviews of SD for Slough and Bucks. We are giving Slough too.

I wonder if there is any other mock provider whose test is closer to the actual exam format. Any suggestions?

@Supamum6629 - I found mock a money making business.

no matter what mock I used or my friends used( where questions were shared) , the quality was just too poor as these mocks are generally being set by tutor who are teachers or people who set the mocks many years ago n now reusing the same . Either the questions were way too easy or super challenging like gcse or weired questions.

1 I use to find cheapest local mocks n send my son just to gain classroom experience .4/5 mocks helped him
to manage the environment .
2, few online to time manage n I could dig by his side to see where he is failing.

both above point helped to practice style as well.

  1. But purely to assess him, I found best was to use past papers from independent schools n practice those as at-least questions quality was good

I hardly spent 200 in mocks n that was more than enough .

That's a good way and I totally second that. We have booked only 2 mocks so far. Still thinking if this one for HBS is needed or not.

I have to differ from the earlier opinions. In context of HBS stage 2, if targeting based on criterion 4 only, the scope of making mistake is limited.
It is equally important to able to target Qs which other attendees got right and particularly if lot many of them got it right. You get that stats from almost all mock providers.

Mocks purpose is to identify weak areas. Get to know them at earliest and keep working to the point of being perfect.

Between the 2 stages , there is hardly any f2f mock to evaluatey DD'S prep, so best to be sorted within holidays itself.

The fact remains that the mocks do not come cheap. The job at hand is not either to succeed at minimum expenses, it is to ..

I asked the girls on open day and seems most used elevenplusexams so my DD sat one mock the day before. It's first stage format only but gives a ranking of where your child is compared to others that sat the same mock paper - the one she did gave a rank out of over 600 girls. For second stage I would recommend doing the Examberry Tiffin in person mock, the format is the same as for HBS.

Would also definitely recommend gradlify.com mocks - they're free and they seem to be really difficult as well
