If your Y5 was tutored online 121 for 11+ , how did it work, especially for Maths?

I can totally see how it works for English - pretty much the same as my Zoom calls/training at work I imagine

But Maths? How do you look at the child's work as they go? how do you demo things? Writing on Zoom whiteboard seems to be pretty slow and ungainly...

Huge thanks in advance

I tutor (not maths) mostly on Zoom and I find it works best with verbal answers. Another way if I want to see some writing is for the student to jot down answers on a mini whiteboard - good bc it can easily be corrected.

They don’t end up with a heap of notes but I find that lots of notes are not usually used much anyway as exam prep (!) and if needed, I am always happy to provide a drafted digest of what we have studied.

A mini whiteboards works well then dc2 tutor dc3 online math. One is at university and one in primary school.

really dumb question here - what is a mini whiteboard @MumChp and @clary ? Im guessing it is very different to the Zoom shared whiteboard....

Huge thanks - and looking forward to hearing others experiences too

Just a small A4 size whiteboard? Your DC will surely use one at school. Used with a drywipe marker.

Kids love them bc you can wipe it out if it’s wrong.

I get a student to write a few sentences and show me the WB.
I got mine from Amazon for a few £.

Here’s mine :)

actually I find the Zoom whiteboard works really well if it's an ipad or similar touch screen device. I can write on it with an apple pencil. Otherwise people have to use their finger, but for something like maths, when it can be large and doesn't need to be super-neat, that's fine. Or I can show something on the white board and the other person can verbally tell me their answer, or dictate what I should write to solve it, etc. I find maths better than English in fact.

@clary That's fab!

Love its simplicity and off to buy one now - think I've found it's dupe!!
