Wantage, Oxfordshire Secondary Schools

Hi I am hoping someone can give me some insight please?
We are moving to Wantage in July and I have one child who will be going into Year 8 and the other Year 6.
What is King Alfred's Academy like? I can see Ofsted have given it a good but have read that the school has gone downhill with bullying being present. I've not seen an up to date review for the school.
Also any recommendations for a primary school?

King Alfred’s Academy is really poor from my experience. I would avoid it as much as possible. The senior leadership team are incompetent and they have absolutely no understanding of SEND. I would strongly advise looking at alternatives such as Faringdon Community College, Aureus in Didcot or the Downs School, Compton.

Primary schools are much better, in particular I would recommend Wantage Primary Academy.

I have just applied to st birinius, Wallingford and fitzharrys. I have read more negatives than positives about KA. It's a real shame as it is down the road from us! I'm not applying for primary yet until I find out about the secondary.

Any update on your Yr8 school place @WHITEGLOVE? I hope everything has worked out for you.

Hi @Whenlifegivesyoulemonsmakelemonade so my son didn't get into Birinus, Wallingford and Fitzharrys but as luck would have it he got put into Aureus. Quite a few people had recommended Aureus so hopefully it will be ok!

Sorry to hear you didn't manage to get in to your top choices, but I have heard good things about Aureus too. I really hope it all goes well for your children starting in September!
