Continuing Interest List - how it works? Hertfordshire

Hi, after some advice please. Based in Hertfordshire.

We were allocated our 4th choice of school which was obviously not ideal. We have stayed on the CI list but what I wanted to check out was whether the order of the ranking for your schools affects whether you would be considered for the 2nd option or not.

Sorry not sure if this makes sense when written down..
So for our 2nd choice, if someone else had it as their first choice but lived slightly further away than us. Would they be above us on the list?

Hoping that makes sense. Just trying to figure out whether I should change around the ranking of the schools or not.

Thank you x

It works the same as admissions... your preferences only come into play if you qualify for more than one school. The schools have no idea where you listed them.

As above, the only difference is for single sex schools which allocate in a random area where continuing interest is still random.

Waiting lists for year 7 have to be kept until at least the end of the autumn term, and have to be administered using the same criteria as initial allocations; so no, your preferences are not relevant until and unless you qualify for 2 offers.

This of course means you can go both up and down lists, if new people join who qualify higher say by living closer.

If a school allocates by random allocation, for example for a number of Brighton schools (there are mixed sex as well as single sex ones that do this) then a new randomised list should be generated for each vacancy.

Hopefully it’s clear from the above but as per the original application stage you should rank schools according to your genuine order of preference.
