Hillingdon to John Hampden High Wycombe

Hello,
Do we have any parents of children living in Hillingdon attending John Hampden grammar school in High Wycombe? My son is accepted to attend there in September and I am looking for any coaches or carpools from Hillingdon or Uxbridge.

@arun23285 It’s your responsibility to get him there. You might be able to ask the school about bus routes but you are not in Bucks so Bucks has no responsibility for transport. You chose the school so you must have some idea about how you intended to get him there! Is any other child going from his school? I’m assuming you are priority area B so why not ask the school about coach routes?

@TizerorFizz I am new to this forum so may not know the rules about posting. I understand it is my responsibility to get him to school, and I do have a plan. I hope it is okay to check for an alternate plan on this forum.
There isn't anyone from his year group that is going to the school. I was hoping to see if anyone on this forum has children with similar travelling requirements

@TizerorFizz are you normally that rude? Of course OP knows she has to get her son to school. There’s no harm in asking if anyone else has prior experience of how they got their non-Bucks child to school, in case there’s options OP hasn’t thought of.

OP - it’s a bit of a public transport dead zone despite Handy Cross bus station. I would contact the private buses and see if they would be willing to extend their route to eg Uxbridge if not Hillingdon. There are children who come from Gerrards Cross/Iver area which isn’t far away.

TizerorFizz · 04/03/2025 12:07

I did not intend to be rude but most people visit schools and do know how any transport might work from outside of Bucks. I would think car shares via MN is unlikely and that’s why I said contact the school who might know of private operators serving parents not in Bucks. There could also be parents groups over the border too or school buses with capacity. Ask the Bucks CC travel team.

I think I’ve posted this on a similar thread before - as a PP suggested, I think the closest school coach routes go from Gerrards Cross:

They may not be far away, but they are both in Bucks whereas Hillingdon and Uxbridge are not. Which is the point that @TizerorFizz was making - Bucks schools aren't under any obligation to transport children who live out of county, from a cost point of view, and therefore the likelihood is that OP will have to get her son to an existing coach route.

Thanks for the geography lesson.

A number of the far reaching JH buses are arranged privately by parents and have limited involvement with the school. So, it’s not an incorrect suggestion to reach out to the bus providers to see if routes can be added to.

I’m in denham and my son has been offered John hampden. Wondered if you figured out a route for your son as I am also trying to work out best routes.

The Oxford Tube stops at Hillingdon. At one point it stopped at Handy X hub directly outside JHGS.

I don’t know if it goes there any more. I used to have to stop there on it sometimes when travelling to London but it was hit and miss.

@arun23285 , did you manage to sort out transport? If so, could you please provide some information? We live in Ruislip and are offered a late admission for DC at Wycombe High. We trying to see if it is possible to commute there for few days before moving.
