Dear mums,

My DD will be sitting exams in September 2025, and I’d love to hear your thoughts on Chesham vs Dr. Challoner’s. I generally prefer co-ed schools, as I feel gender diversity creates a healthier environment, but I have no experience with single-sex schools—where I’m from, they’re not common!

DD is academically strong but also a free-spirited, creative girl who loves art, music, and dance. She’s very sporty too, with tennis and athletics being her main focus. So, I’m looking for a school that balances strong academics with great arts, music, and sports programmes. Diversity and friendly school community is also really important to us.

For those with DCs at either school, how have you found the overall environment? How well do they support creative and sporty children? If you’ve had experience with both co-ed and single-sex schools, what’s been the biggest difference for your child?

Would love to hear all thpughts—any insights would be super helpful! Thanks so much.

I’ve toured both and honestly neither came across as having that balance between academics and extra curricular activities to the extent that we are considering independent. However, parents with children at those schools may have a better idea.
