Has anyone evidenced their childs skiing on holiday for PE GCSE (AQA)? Or any PE teachers here who have moderated it.

Any tips. Thank you

I know that we have had pupils who have used skiing as their GCSE sport. However, the school is close to a snow dome, so I think I was evidenced there.

Not got any direct experience but I have heard of ppl offering skiing (or horseriding or other sports not available in school).

AFAIK they videoed it and this was acceptable; I would check the spec of the GCSE as they vary and discuss with the teacher what you need to show, but broadly it is as much about progress and sparkling skills. Is this a ski trip over this Christmas holiday? If so I would contact the teacher as a matter of urgency tomorrow (many schools break up tomorrow or Friday).

I know several people who have done this. You need to be a very good skier to film and ski at the same time, and you won’t get enough footage standing in one place to film. Something to think about if you are filming.

Go to youtube or Google and look for skiing PE GCSE grade 9 and you'll see an example of what you need to do. There are a few videos showing grade 9 performance.

Need to be pretty good and that's not just the skier, the cameraperson too!!

Make sure you read the specification requirements really carefully before you go on holiday so you know exactly what needs to be videod, eg how many linked turns etc.

Thanks. We planned to pay a ski guide in resort to video the evidence as we cant keep up on icy black runs let alone video at the same time. Yes it is for this holiday but we will ski again before GCSEs so will get another chance but would be great to get it done to grade 9 this holiday. we read the requirements for AQA and it didnt seem specific. Would the teachers have further information?

Thanks. Any PE teachers who have moderated it?

It wasn't my child, but as a reasonably competent skier was asked to video someone who just happened to be in our group for her GCSE.
The conditions for filming were horrific. almost a blizzard. and very hard to get clear shots. I did my best.
I didn't know what was required so I just took as much footage as I could then gave them the camera back
The main thing I'd say is starting filming early in the week in case conditions deteriorate.
paying a ski guide/instructor might be a good idea. or taking a gopro camera. anything that keeps the shots steadier.

skigcse · 18/12/2024 20:28

thank you for this. We have a gopro but we dont have the ability to ski the same runs whilst filming so will have to pay someone. Maybe we can do some from a standing position at start of week.

Ds is currently away skiing with the school, one of his teachers has taken a few videos of him for his GCSE. No idea if they will be good enough!
