Tiffin Girls School stage 2 result

kenzo002 · 09/11/2024 23:30

My daughter completed the stage two exam today. I was informed that the results would be available on March 3, 2025. We received feedback indicating that her performance on the Nonsuch High stage two exam was successful, but we will not receive a final offer until March 2025. Could you advise if, unlike Nonsuch, there is no indication of exam results for Tiffin Girls’ School until that time?

As we plan to apply to independent schools, we may need to pay a deposit without knowing the outcome from Tiffin Girls’ School. I would appreciate any advice you could provide on this matter. Additionally, if any other parents have daughters who took the exam today, could you share your thoughts on how the exam went?

From what I understand is private school deadlines are usually after the state school results come out.

daniclark5565 · 10/11/2024 01:21

Hiya, yes they won’t hear the result untill March. My daughter also passed Non such second stage but we are out of catchment area so to be offered a place she will have to score top 85. Rgds Tiffin exam today , my daughter found the maths paper very hard in a way that there wasn’t enough time to go through them all , she didnt manage to finish it leaving over 10+ questions blank so no chance for us . Very proud of her though , state educated with no tutoring, unfortunately private education isn’t an option for us .

@SamPoodle123 Thank you for your response. If that’s the case, it’s a great relief for us. Getting an offer from Tiffin is, of course, extremely challenging, but the deposit for independent schools is also quite a significant amount. I would prefer to make this commitment only when everything is absolutely clear. Thank you again for your help.

@daniclark5565 Thank you very much for your kind response. I’m sorry to hear that your daughter found the math questions challenging. I’m sure many of the girls struggled with those math problems as well. My daughter managed to complete the math section and finished the creative writing section fully. However, with the reading comprehension, she was able to complete the first four questions but could only write about a quarter of the fifth question (which seemed like a full-page mini essay). It seems she had difficulty managing her time during the written comprehension section.

Do you think there is still a slim chance for her to get through? I don’t have a community or friends to discuss these things with, so I would really appreciate any advice you could share.😥

Lastly, may I ask for clarification on one point? I listed Tiffin Girls’ as my first preference and Nonsuch as my second with my local council. If my daughter is not successful with Tiffin, will Nonsuch still consider her application fairly, even though it was listed as the second preference?

Your CAF preferences are all considered by the schools concerned as if you had only applied there - all applicants to that school are ranked according to the oversubscription criteria and no school knows which other school(s), if any, have been applied for. If an applicant could be offered a place at more than one of the schools on their CAF, their home LA looks at the preference order and the offer made on national offer day is the highest ranked of those.

So Child A could have listed a school as their sixth preference, but not be ranked highly enough by schools 1-5 to get a place and they will be offered a place over the Child B, who listed the school as first preference, but is ranked by the school as outside the scope of an offer.

The 'first preference first' system for state schools became illegal many years ago.

Offers from independent schools will give you their final dates of acceptance. Though some offers from wait list does come later, in other years on MN some folks kept all offers until deadlines and not releasing them which caused some MNs to post it was unfair for those on wait lists since they knew which they will accept but didn’t release the others.

11plus2nd · 10/11/2024 10:37

Most Indies acceptance deadlines are mid Feb, so yeah, for Tiffin, you dont know for sure until 2 weeks later. The deposit will be returned if the private school fills in the slot so for some top Indies, it wont be a problem if you decide straight away post 03rd March. Unless some people who are undecided until much later then potentially you loose the deposit and some cases a term fee too, the condition should clearly mention in the acceptance letter. I knew about the process from my elder daughter.

My 2nd daughter is now in the same position, although performed less well yesterday(not being able to finish the writing and leaving 1 math question and 1 comprehension sectional question unanswered and ran out of time). Private school is a stretch for us too as it will be paid from our salary so loads of uncertainty about fee increase, job security etc.

Dallasdays · 10/11/2024 11:44

I think most independent deadlines are after state outcome. 2 years ago, when I did this with my DS, KGS, for example, gave him until 3 March to accept, and the state outcome was published on 1 March.

11plus2nd · 10/11/2024 12:00

So it has changed, it was 6 years ago for my elder daughter and we have a 10+ KGS now and its in Feb.

tennissquare · 10/11/2024 12:27

@11plus2nd , yes it changed as it caused too much uncertainty when private schools were before Tiffin, the private schools want certainty that a deposit will turn into a place in September so they know how much to move on their WL.

The uncertainty for a parent is when a dc gets a Tiffin WL place and a private school offer.

SamPoodle123 · 10/11/2024 13:04

You can easily look up the deadlines for each of the private schools you are applying to in order to find out the answer. When my dd did it two years ago, all schools she applied to gave a deadline for after the state school offers. The first school I just looked up for my ds gives deadline of March 5th.

kenzo002 · 10/11/2024 22:06

Thank you all. It looks most of independent school decision deadline is stated as Early March for now. Some school doesn't show it but I believe they won't different that much.

@11plus2nd My tutor told me today that offer is confirmed and given in National day 3 Mar 2025. However, pass/fail notice will come later in few week this year even if offer is given still next year, which is same as Nonsuch. May I know if you are aware of this as well?

We havent thought about it that far ahead, especially she hasnt sat the exam to be honest. For KGS 10+ offer, it says 10th of Feb and at the moment is our only and potentially first choice. The only concern we have is the sport centre is not in the school and quite far for us on public transport.

CaptainOhMyCaptain · 11/11/2024 06:01

For KGS there is always a coach back to school from the sports fields after games or after school practices. You need to make your own way there and back for Saturday matches though.

10+ is different from 11+.....you are not also waiting for an offer from secondary school as that is only for 11+, hence the Feb 10th date....

11plus2nd · 11/11/2024 09:08

For rowing which could be mornings would make it impossible as we cant pick or drop during the week. Its a shame as we visited the sport centre and its lovely.

She is sitting the upcoming Hammersmith Indies so its still all up in the air for us.

Proudmumofonly1 · 11/11/2024 10:13

@kenzo002 my daughter did the same. It sounds like the school is prioritising time management to the actual knowledge and ability.

sdtn · 11/11/2024 12:16

Any idea how much the creative writing section counts on the Tiffin girl's stage two? My daughter didn't finish Math or Comprehension but did well on Creative Writing. Wondering if there is still any chance at all.

kagurazakamum · 11/11/2024 12:28

Please do not share any details about the test in case you give an advantage to late sitters.
