I'd love to hear thoughts from parents with children currently in Ibstock Place (2024). I'm considering secondary school for my child, but I'd love to hear firsthand feedback, good and bad, please.

Same, I would like to make decision between Ibstock Place/ Emanuel/ Harrodian. Any tips much appreciated

Our child recently started at the school and absolutely loves it. The structured approach to learning ensures that tasks are clearly defined and thoroughly checked, allowing students to understand expectations and stay on track with confidence.

Our son has felt very welcomed and integrated, and the student body seems to have a broad range of interests. The school doesn’t appear to be overly - dominated by sports, making it a great fit for curious, creative, and perhaps slightly unconventional children. While the school encourages academic achievement, it also supports students who are motivated by more than just competition and results.

The selection of clubs is outstanding—not just the traditional ones, but also unique options like Dismantling, Design & Technology, and Dungeons & Dragons. The staff are incredibly enthusiastic and dedicated, and we couldn’t be happier to see our son thriving.

If there’s one thing I wish the school did more of, it would be organising a few more activities in Richmond Park, which is so close to the school.

Gosh- that's a lot of schools!
Surely you must have some preference in terms of single sex v co- ed and location?

I’d possibly start your own thread. This is a very wide list of schools, geographically and academically though, so not sure you’ll get that much targeted advice as not many people I would think applied for Channing vs I lbstock as geographically unless living very central London.

Of course co-ed

Well done to your DD for this many offers. Narrow your list down to your preferred 2-3 schools and please let go of the other offers as people with waitlists places will greatly appreciate it.
Out of those you have offers for, I've heard great things about QC, FHRP and recently IPS. Go with gut feeling and location. Which is your daughter's preference?

these are all good schools!
My daughter has been offered Maida Vale, Queen’s College and Francis Holland Regent’s Park. Our choice is FHRP
I suggest you look at exit results, and leavers destinations and it will help you make a better decision. As well as location and commute. Good luck!

@Musickyle73 and @LindsayB1 LindsayB1 came across this thread. We are choosing between IPS and Emanuel. Did you either of you send your DCs there?

@ForLovingDuck - I think the poster meant that all the clubs you mentioned started with D...and that most Secondary schools have these schools...

Jutformum · 04/03/2025 19:41

My son goes to Ibstock and second son will start next year. It's a good school. The teachers are overall good and I like a traditional approach to learning, using both textbooks and computers, regular homework etc. The PP talked about clubs and I can confirm there are many on offer, including water polo, skateboarding etc. my boy however mainly does the regular ones. Food is good too. If I have a criticism, it is the 5 minutes online teacher meetings: too short!

Lyolik · 04/03/2025 21:27

Thank you very much! It means a lot.

any update on your Wait List for LU? That is an amazing potential option

Check other postings on this site re feedback on Maida Vale… it is very rare to see such consensus negative feedback…I know nothing about the school

WetherbyPembridge is a new business from the private equity rollup of schools that recently acquired Wetherby (excellent up to 8+) and Pembridge (decent). Would pick any of your choices ahead of it as it is totally unproven and will likely be a “last resort”. Personally would ALWAYS pick a school that is a charitable trust over one that is a business… their margin improvements/“efficiencies” are your child’s opportunity cost…

Excellent advice from one of the earlier respondents suggesting you review destinations of leavers. Since you have so many west london options, check perhaps Bute, Glendower, Falkner House and Pembridge to get a sense of how desired/popular/well-regarded your options are from parents and DDs on a relative basis… some will be very clear eliminations, others will come down to your preferences

good luck!!

The Ibstock deadline was yesterday....

The Ibstock deadline was yesterday....

I haven't heard the best reviews of Maida Vale but I don't have experience of the school. I look around it last year, I thought the library was very poorly stocked.amd the outside space is minute. There is a basketball court but each class or year was only allocated 10 mins. It was very limited.
I don't know much about the others.

Is one better geographically? distance is a big factor for many

Commonmum · 08/02/2026 18:49

Hello what did you choose at the end? We just got similar schools
