loz123learning · 25/09/2024 22:40

she got 86/160 on her gcse english lit so a grade 5 but was 4 marks off a 6 and was getting 6/7 the whole 2 years. do you think its worth doing a remark?
also extra info:
got 39 in paper 1 so a grade 6 and was 5 marks off a 7
and got 47 in paper 2 so a grade 5 and 4 marks off a 6
according to the notional grade boundries
we know that english gcses are more subjective so i thought maybe her grade could change but i dont know if it could be done by 4 marks
help asap please we have to decide by tomorrow please

Hi, honestly, it’s highly unlikely to change by so much and do remember that it’s not a remark but a review to check that the examiner has marked within the guidelines

Sorry, I should also say that in Paper 1 she’s near the bottom of the grade boundary and in paper 2 in the middle so there’s a very real possibility that she could end up going down a grade- unless her teacher thinks there’s been some serious mismarking, I wouldn’t.

In my sons school you can ask for a teacher review and they will advise if it's worth it . If near bottom of grade boundary I personally wouldn't risk it

We've done this with 4 subjects, with recommendation by the school. So far 2 have come back and put him from a 6 to a 7 and a 7 to 8. One was one point off a 9 and he'd been getting 9s in his mocks. Unfortunately that came back unchanged. But he's still waiting for English lit which will hopefully go up to a 7 as he was disappointed with the 6 (he'd been getting 8s and 9s in the mocks). He didn't want to challenge the Spanish mark as it was too close to a grade below rather than a grade up so didn't want to potentially drop a grade.

Does she need a 6 for anything? We appealed some of our kids' results but only if they were 1 off the next grade. They were both successful and were increased but I said no to doing any that were more than 1 mark off...

DD went up 17 marks on AQA Eng lit paper 2 on review of marking. I'd say go for it.
