I would appreciate some first-hand knowledge of these swimming performance schools. Considering Year 8 entry.

No first hand knowledge, but I know of both schools, from some years ago. Kelly has the better facilities, I believe they had a 50m pool built in 2016. However Plymouth college have a 20 or 25m pool (sorry I can't remember the exact length) and I believe they use the huge (olympic) pool in Plymouth as well. Both schools have had incredibly skilled swimmers through their doors, so I would suggest you go and visit both schools to get a feel for them.

Day or boarding? My dd was at MK until recently, boarding. I don’t have great things to say about it on the whole. Coaches leaving, lots of drugs / underage sex / alcohol and problems brushed aside. Unless your child continues to be an incredibly good swimmer they will be pushed aside for the better ones who come in at years 9, 10 & 12 from overseas / bigger clubs. It’s impossible to tell at year 8. I’d say if you really want to, wait until at least year 10 - if they are medalling at British nationals give it a go but less than that it’s not with it - stay at your local club and doubtless your local school will be far better academically as MK isn’t great.

locely location though & my daughter did make some great friends.
