Secondary schools recommendations near Weybridge/Walton on Thames

Hi all, we moved to Wimbledon a few years ago because of a quite a few great primary and secondary schools in the area. We have been renting and we start realizing that we won't be able to afford to buy in this area. We are considering Walton on Thames/Weybridge as a next step due to fast trains to London. Can someone recommend good secondary grammar / private school in these area? Thank you

There is so much choice and dc travel up and down the train line, ie Surbiton to Guildford, anywhere on the line to Kingston or via the school coach network, you can live in Richmond and go to school in Weybridge, Oxshott or Leatherhead. The grammar schools are Tiffin in Kingston or various options in Sutton. You need to subscribe to the good schools guide and check out www.elevenplusexams.co.uk

@Vassyek , I'm a little bemused why you wouldn't forego the idea of a private school and use the vast amount of money saved to buy a home near a good state school in an area of your choice. Is that not an option?

@tennissquare If you read my post carefully you would notice that I also mentioned grammar schools, which are state

No, I saw that. But the grammar schools are super-selectives and highly competitive so nobody can guarantee a place.

hey, does anyone have any feedback/reviews about Cleves School in Weybridge? Cleves is outstanding on paper but I am looking for reviews/ first hand experience, if possible. I know this post was for secondary schools, but I could not see a more related post.. I am mum of twins, who is desperately searching for primary schools in the area, thanks!:)

I don't think Weybridge is in the catchment area for any grammar schools. The inner catchment area for Tiffin is a 10km radius.

You're correct.

Heathside is the local secondary school- both my sons went/are there, and I've been very happy with the standard of teaching.

Private schools (no direct experience but have friends whose children go private)- St George's college is well thought-of, and Sir William Perkins (girls only) in Chertsey. There's also Feltonfleet nearby, but I don't know how good it is.

Cleves has always had a good reputation BUT is also well-known for driving the kids very hard. Great if your child is the type to thrive on it, not so much if they aren't. Places are hard-fought for.

My two went to St. James- I found it to be pretty good generally. Both went on to Heathside- ds2 is now in sixth form and looking at Oxbridge.

I've heard great things about Heathside.

Also for private schools St Georges which is coed, SWP which is girls and Halliford boys, I've hear good things about all of them.
