Is Christ's School in Richmond, Surrey, a good secondary school?
My son starts Year 6 in September and we need to start applying for schools.
Thank you.

Ok academically. Average as compared to other Richmond schools, above average as compared to nationwide. Very good sport results, leading country basketball team ( if I am not mistaken with another sport)

In that part of borough top schools academically are currently : Grey Court, Orlean Park( around 1.1-1.2 km catchment).

Btw, Richmond is not in Surrey. Richmond is a borough of London. Surrey is further South.

It was in Surrey until 1965. Now it isn't: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/London_Borough_of_Richmond_upon_Thames

Christ's is a good school.

I am not sure why you are quoting me. We are in 2024 and not 1965.

Tetchy!

I wanted the OP to know the reason why people often say "Richmond, Surrey." Especially older people.

She has presumably picked the phrase up from somewhere.

Sometimes when people fill out forms with an address, the "county" field is mandatory. If Greater London isn't in the list, then the only option is to choose the old county names. So they persist.

I am not irritated but surprised as you addressed it to me by quoting me

That’s how you know who someone is replying to.

PeachSalad · 04/08/2024 08:06

Yes, and you replied to me, dear, by quoting me re 1965 and you didn't use "atOP" sign. Hence my confusion

cheesesplat · 04/08/2024 08:10

@PeachSalad , if I want to "address" you I will tag you at the beginning of the message like this.

In contrast, if someone quotes you, they are responding to something you said, but that doesn't mean they are addressing you directly, any more than if they had quoted Shakespeare.

cheesesplat · 04/08/2024 08:12

@PeachSalad , the poster "Cheesus" has a similar name to me but is a different person.

crockofshite · 04/08/2024 08:16

Stop bickering.

The OP is asking about a school in Richmond.

cheesesplat · 04/08/2024 08:22

Luckily, Richmond in Yorkshire doesn't have a school called Christ's. 😁

Personally as a former student I would not send my child here at all. The quality of teaching has decreased heavily since the last ofsted report in 2021. I hope im not too late. But if already have then I’d advise grey court instead of this horrible school.

cheesesplat · 14/01/2025 21:29

@YourMauveBee people don't necessarily have the choice to send their child to whichever school they want unless they have mobility and the money to rent/buy a home near their school of choice.

All schools are struggling to recruit staff at the moment. Some will be more resilient than others, but don't assume Grey Court is immune.
