Sports Day - last week of term

I am curious to know why secondary schools often schedule sports day for the last week of term, leaving no option for a back up day in case of bad weather.

Is it due to other schedules that can't be flexible or is it that it's a ball ache to arrange and the "we are disappointed to have to cancel" email is not entirely truthful.

Possibly it's because the schools are relatively empty at that time. Leavers have left and exams are over so more staff available to help out.

I wouldn't care to be honest. I was never a fan of sports days. Just guessing though that those could be some of the reasons.

I'd guess that for those who love it, probably best to have it at the end of term as happens with some other once a year events.

Because it's less disruptive

Gets the exams out the way first

So exams are finished, leavers have left, induction days are over. Schools normally have concerts and productions in the last week for these reasons aswell.

In London lots of schools don't have space on site and so hire local leisure centres/sports tracks. They can't afford to do that twice!

Ours aren’t in the last week but we have no back up days for bad weather, if it’s off it’s off.
