Hi everyone,

This is a question for teachers and employees- what is Woodbridge High School like to work in? Are you happy there? Would you send your child there and why?

OP posts:

Last time I looked it was in Suffolk.

PrincessOfPreschool · 08/06/2024 23:30

It is indeed where the OP says it is.

OP, I know people who have gone there and rate it highly. A big advantage for it is that it's in a London Borough. Schools just outside, in Essex, get less funding which makes it harder to get students. With a crisis in teaching, I think London schools are able to pay more and retain better staff.

PrincessOfPreschool · 08/06/2024 23:31

It's in the London borough of Redbridge.

Last time you looked a school in Woodford is in Suffolk?!

TizerorFizz · 09/06/2024 00:04

Ignore me. Too tired to read accurately.

DD2 is hoping to go to Woodbridge for sixth form next year and I would be happy for her to go. We attended a "high flyers" open evening there a few weeks ago and I liked the head teacher, the facilities and the general feeling of the place.

The only annoying thing (but nothing to do with the school) is there is a bridge right outside which has been closed for repairs for a couple of years now, so you have to go miles out of your way to drive there nowadays, and the 675 school bus has to go via the motorway. But it can't be helped and won't be repaired anytime soon.

PrincessOfPreschool · 09/06/2024 21:17

I was there today as DD had a netball trial. The teacher bays have electric chargers which neither of my kids' schools have! It looked like good facilities. I might look at it for 6th form, never thought of that. It's actually only about 5/10 min walk from Woodford station. It is a big school.

I know people with kids there who rate it very highly. Very popular locally. Good on extra curricular activities from what I hear. Depends what your alternatives are as ever.

A mixed intake - large council blocks on doorstep but many middle class kids too.

Do look at logistics carefully - as @TotalDramarama24 rightly points out the Broadmead Road bridge is closed for the foreseeable future whilst Redbridge/TFL/Government argue about who should pay £25m to repair it. You can walk over though.

From all I have seen, it is a good school. It has good resources, a wide range of extra-curricular activities, glowing Ofsted reports, nice lunches and gets great results. As a pp has noted it has a wide intake but gives extra support to high flyers as well as those struggling. I would send my kids there if it were an option (sadly we are out of catchment; I applied anyway, to no avail). My only concern is some word of mouth about bullying and bad behaviour at the school - but this came from pupils at a local rival school so no idea how accurate those claims are.

Hi, just checking if anyone knows what Royal hospital school in Ipswich is like. I am thinking of sending my daughter there next year as a full boarder. Thanks

PrincessOfPreschool · 30/09/2025 22:48

I think you may need to start a different thread. @Ule@Ule.Woodbridge school is in London Borough of Redbridge.

BoatyMcBoatfacesailsagain · 30/09/2025 22:56

Woodbridge School is definitely in Suffolk. I should know. I was there for 7 years.

There is also one in Essex

TizerorFizz · 30/09/2025 23:08

@BoatyMcBoatfacesailsagain I thought Woodbridge was in Suffolk - maybe that’s just Woodbridge school?

I think that's why OP put the postcode on. I have lived in this area for 25 years!

VashtaNerada · 01/10/2025 03:52

It’s in Redbridge which is Greater London. Amused by those who can’t comprehend that more than one school could have the same name! Staff seem very happy there - turnover is very low and the Head has been with the school for a very long time. It’s a lovely school.

Woodbridge is in Suffolk. It’s a nice little market town.
