Prom suits - where from?

Just looking at Next and they seem to have a good variety, not too expensive. Where else shall I look? Would TKMaxx have designer/branded suits at a sensible price?

We got a tux and matching trousers in the M&S sale, about £15 each, at Xmas.

Otherwise, his school asks them to wear a suit in 6th form. Both Next and Marks do reasonably priced machine washable ones, and at least some of them have a lot of range in sizing.

i would try these guys: Edit Suits Co.. Impeccable service and reasonable prices. They have stores all over the UK

The cheapest there is £479. Not for my teen to play football in, I think. I know what he's like!

Thanks everyone for your suggestions. We’re going to start with Next and see if he finds anything nice around the £100 mark. I was hoping he’d be happy with black (morbid, but with elderly family members I was being practical re potential funerals!) but apparently he wants grey as he’s been in black school uniform for years. Fair enough I suppose.

Surprised no-one's suggested Vinted. Got DS to try on suits in Next so I knew his correct jacket and trouser sizes then went on Vinted and restricted the search to Next suits only. Had to sift through to get the right sizes but loads for sale at a fraction of the price new.

We are in London, not super trendy but still quite "middle class" we had a bunch of boys in our garden beforehand as the venue was close to us. I really don't think many of the boys had bought suits. My one was wearing smart chinos, his dads jacket and a nice shirt. I would say it was a 50/50 between trainers or shoes. Some wore ties but most didn't.

We have just borrowed one.
DS is not really interested in the prom, lacked complete communication on what he wanted, so he( or rather I) have borrowed off a friend. I am hoping by the time he is going off to uni he has worked out the importance of formal wear for balls and dinners etc But he is not at that point yet and I would rather he just focus on GCSES.
Good to hear they can wear trainers as DH is rather horrified at DS thinking he will turn up in trainers. At least that battle can be put to bed.

Ds just got his from next. Tried on stuff instore and then ordered correct size to be delivered. Went for navy. Got the shirt and tie in next too. We ordered shoes from MandM direct. They are skechers but look like dress shoes.

This is the suit and the shoes

That's a very nice looking suit @dementedpixie , I really liked the check ones, ds wasn't keen, but there were a few different checked suits when we dropped him off. Everyone was wearing suits and dress shoes.

Ds went for this one for his uni ball last year as he had grown out of his prom suit, its a lovely blue colour, with a bit of texture in real life and sits well as there is a little bit of weight in the fabric. He wore it with darkish tan dress shoes and a darkish tan belt.

(top tip, if they refuse to wear in their shoes, send them with some compeed blister plasters in their inside pocket! ds's shoes will killing him by the end of the day/night)

Hopefully this one will last longer than his prom one which he outgrew in year! We gave his prom suit to the school for this years prom kids.

Yes please let me know, and which one you got. There are quite a few on the website but we’ll have to go into store to try on as I’ve no idea what size he’ll need. We’ve got a huge out of town Next with TKMaxx next door so I’m hoping we can get one from either, without having to drag him round the city centre.

I bought my ds a fairly basic / simple suit from Next for the prom, and he also wears it to sixth form. They wash really well! My older ds also had two suits (1 grey, 1 navy) from next for sixth form, and they are very reasonably priced and last the full two years of heavy wear! I tend to wash the suit jackets at least once a week; and have multiple pairs of matching trousers; I put them in a 2-3kg quick wash (jkt & trs) 20 mins at 30 degrees, 1200 spin, and just hang them up and they dry overnight. If you smooth them straight a bit before you hang them to dry (and don’t leave them sitting in the washing machine), then no ironing required when dry. Perfect, and low-maintenance. Next are also great as they have a multitude of different waist / leg sizes, and different fits - slim, regular, tailored (which all tend to suit different body shapes).

edited to add - aargh! Didn’t see it was a zombie post. However, I’ll leave my post anyway in case it is useful to anyone in future..
