Isle of Arran High transition

Hi all Arran High School parents.

I have three boys, two in P5 and one S1.
we currently live in West Devon on the Cornish boarder.

im looking to re locate to Arran for the smaller high school and community while they become teenagers for their schooling more than anything. The schools where we are are huge and I’m not too impressed. I dont think it will benefit them to go through secondary education where we currently live.

One concern I have is sports. The youngest love football and the oldest rugby. We currently travel over an hour some weekends for matches in Cornwall.

Are there enough children on the island to form high school teams age 12/13 plus for rugby and do the compete off the island?

And is there an active football club for primary age groups (under 11) and do they take part in a league for matches? And how about senior years?

What are the thoughts on outside children being accepted? Would they feel welcome? It’s a huge move I have been considering it for a few years now.

many thanks in advance.

Might be annoying that I am posting as I can’t comment about schools but just wanted to say my first set of in laws moved up to Lochranza on Arran from Liverpool about 35 years ago and found the locals extremely welcoming which isn’t always the case in rural communities.
Lucky you, it is fantastic there. Visited many, many times and wish I was well enough to travel up there again.

Have you tried asking in the Scotsnet Section? It's under Other Stuff Wink

Yes I did but I haven’t had a reply as yet. I guess no news is good news generally! A good school generally just gets on and does its thing if people are happy.
