Hello,
My DS has received an school offer today but no information about bursary offer was included, only deposit details to secure the place. Does it mean he has not received the bursary?

OP posts:
Hatty999 · 09/02/2024 21:46

yes it means full fee paying place

SqueakyShouts · 09/02/2024 21:52

Yes sounds like no bursary offered.

It may follow separately?

Greengreenside · 09/02/2024 21:56

Is it possible that the bursary offer will follow separately or is it usually included with a place offer? The bursary interview was on Monday, so only 4 days ago..

We received bursary offer details in a separate email so maybe it will follow?

Greengreenside · 09/02/2024 22:00

Was the bursary offer emailed on the same day?

Was the bursary offer emailed on the same day?

Yes, both received today. About an hour passed in-between each email. I heard another family received almost straight away and others are yet to hear. There are also waiting lists for bursaries but it is still communicated either way, whether no bursary, fee paying offer and waiting list for bursary or offer with x% fee assistance.

Greengreenside · 09/02/2024 22:13

My son’s offer included information of deposit deadline to secure the place and that was the only email we have received. My DS will be very disappointed after all the efforts he put in..
I've emailed both bursary and admission team but haven’t received any reply and due to weekend and half term it will be difficult to get in touch with them.

Generally is says in the first offer letter whether you are getting remission or not

LIZS · 09/02/2024 22:40

It will usually either give the offer including a bursary or state that if you had applied for a bursary that outcome is to follow.

Greengreenside · 09/02/2024 22:45

I'm confused as I did apply for a bursary and there is nothing mentioned about it on the offer letter. No bursary outcome included.

It will say full fees place or bursary to follow? If the former it is no bursary,

Why don’t you phone the school? We received a bursary offer several weeks after accepting a place.

LIZS · 10/02/2024 20:15

Does any of the paperwork you completed for the assessment or on website outline the process and how the outcome corresponds , or not, with letter on offers day?

Greengreenside · 10/02/2024 20:51

I did call the school and they advised to email bursary department which I did.
The offer came in just before 4pm and I’ve sent the email about 4:30pm. I haven’t received any reply and there is no one to contact until Monday (the longest weekend in my life!).
I had the bursary interview on Monday with the bursary associate who was making a report for the school. I did ask her when am I likely to receive the outcome but she couldn’t answer as then is the school to decide once they get the report.
There is nothing saying on the offer that bursary application was unsuccessful, bursary is not mentioned at all. However, it has information about deposit details/deadline to secure the place which makes me worried that bursary was not awarded..

It seems that the bursary offer should come at the same time. Do schools usually provide the results of bursary application regardless of the outcome?

OP posts:
Pythonesque · 10/02/2024 21:15

It is common for bursary assessments to be done further in advance that yours sounds to have been, so it seems plausible that your application is still being assessed. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you, but I agree it would be helpful to know whether it was a "no" or a "decision pending".

TBNT · 10/02/2024 21:21

Seems like Highgate by the paperwork.

That's a very late bursary application/process?

Has anyone else on here had Highgate replies you can compare to?

Greengreenside · 10/02/2024 21:31

I have submitted my bursary application back in November with all required documents attached. The interviews were meant to take place in January but mine wasn’t until early February when I contacted them that I have not received an interview invitation. Is it possible that they did not assessed my application on time and will that mean that bursary offers were already given out to others?

OP posts:
TBNT · 10/02/2024 21:35

Yeah it sounds like they missed your application or something?

Might work in your favour if they feel bad about it? Grin

Greengreenside · 10/02/2024 21:42

I really hope there is still a chance. But if the bursary offers were sent out already will they still have founds to give another offer?

OP posts:
LIZS · 10/02/2024 21:56

Or it might be that they order the applicants by results and allocate available funding until it runs out. If another candidate turns their place down the money may be released but usually it is finite budget overall.

London7474 · 21/05/2024 17:52

is there a deadline to apply for a bursary? when do we need to apply?

Sorry to ask but are you allowed to let us know if the bursary was successful and if you don't mind sharing if it was a 50%

Each school will differ , but normally there is a section on the application form to indicate you wish to apply for one and more paperwork follows to assess eligibility.

Hatty999 · 24/05/2024 16:13

you tick a box on the application form (11+) Then they send you paperwork. Some ask for initial figures and some don't release the forms until after the exam.
