Pastoral day or potential flexi-boarding school

Hi there

Would really appreciate wisdom for any private secondary schooling ideas (Y7 entry) for our DD. She is super sensitive and would benefit in a smaller school environment where she can thrive. She is sweet, academically average (which is totally fine and good), loves singing, swimming, netball. Looking for an all-round Co-Ed or single sex option. Excellent pastoral care is key and day is preferable-although flexi-boarding may be good.

She will be moving from a London state school and we will also relocate for the best schooling option for her. We need to be within 1.5 hrs of the City and our parents are all our west so would like to look at options near:- Hungerford, Overton, Haddenham, Didcot, Goring, Bicester or Milton Keynes, Kettering etc.

Thank you so much for any ideas of advice :)

Wychwood in Oxford is your best choice.

Cranford School in Moulsford would work from Goring/Didcot area and would suit a girl like you describe.

I could have written this about my own daughter. Same decision for us but we’re looking Kent/East Sussex for yr7. Mayfield and Kent College Pembury our preferences, also Woldingham on the radar. Former two seem to offer excellent pastoral care, excellent academically and “gently selective”. Both offer flexi boarding. Although they’re both within your distance to London, unfortunately not in the exact location you’re looking for. Maybe worth a look though?

Take a look at St George’s Ascot. Small and nurturing. Day, Flexi and full boarding. Great range of extra curricular and a new swimming pool.

Have a look at St Margaret’s in Bushey - and feel free to PM me if you like. We really love the school.

Heathfield is definitely worth a look. Small but not tiny. Every girl is known.
