Trying to gather insight on Bedales present day (some very mixed past reviews!). Anyone currently inviolved with insight to share?

Also interested to know of any recommendations for schools with a focus on dance / performing arts.

DD attends The Hammond in Chester which is a performing arts school, but not sure whether you mean a ‘normal’ school with additional dance etc, or an actual performing arts school?

I think Bedes in East Sussex is one of the top schools for dancers (without being solely a dance school). Otherwise you are looking at places like or Tring, where everyone wants a careers in the performing arts. Never heard Bedales mentioned at all re. dance - are you sure you didn’t get the name muddled? I have heard King’s Canterbury and Hurst near Brighton have strong dance offerings, but not on the same level as Bedes.

Bedales is a classical school with more focus on creative subjects and a different attitude to exams and tests. If you are looking at performance arts college, may be Hurtwood? They focus on drama with a large cohort and 10 performances per year. It is expensive though.

Consider The King's School, Canterbury may be? Despite its location it's surprisingly international and above all has a fabulous creative arts programme. They have a wonderful performing arts building and an arts week at the end of every academic year which includes the whole school. It's a good mix of traditional and modern and with a new female Head, it is undergoing something of a renaissance.
