Help! - what brand coat for a yr 7 boy?

My son needs a new coat. He has a Trespass coat that is now too small for him
and needs replacing, but we don’t want something that will make him stand out at school - nothing too expensive that might be pinched, but also not something that might cause him to be teased. What coats are 11-12 yr olds wearing at state secondaries these days?

Nike, adidas, Hoodrich, Berghaus

Half the year group have those ridiculous expensive Canada brand ones. The other half just seem to have Nike/Adidas.

GrossEncountersoftheTurdKind · 01/12/2023 18:52

Every other kid at my son's school seems to wear North Face black puffas. Mine wears a Trespass.

Lemonademoney · 01/12/2023 18:57

Can’t go wrong with a black Nike jacket… mine also has a khaki north face puffa for when it’s really cold

Timetogosouth · 01/12/2023 20:25

There is lots of north face about or no coat at all as they get a bit older !

@SuperSue77 What does the uniform policy say?

My son wore unbranded M&S coats which were warm, good quality, and reasonably priced. He was never teased.

Branding is tacky. The sooner they learn that, the better.

Joevanswell · 03/12/2023 15:53

North Face seems to be the “uniform” here

shepherdsangeldelight · 03/12/2023 18:26

Don't wear coats.

honestly, these things are school specific. What might be the current trend at one school might be social suicide at another. You are best off asking on a local FB group or hanging around outside school at the end of the day and observing.

DS in year 9 says North Face or Berghaus. Zavetti Canada are very popular with year 7s but thought of as very try hard with anyone older. At least that's what I interpreted from the teen speak.

Thanks for all the replies. It’s a tricky one has my son is autistic and is very particular about clothing, so I need something he’ll be comfortable in, but he is also a bit of a target for being picked on, especially as he won’t get what is in and what isn’t. I just want to avoid getting him something that he is happy with but might increase the chances of others picking on him. He has a (what I see as trendy) black Puma lightweight jacket which he’s worn without comment but he needs something warmer for winter. And to all those saying they don’t wear coats, my son will definitely want one - it’s getting him to take it off in the lesson is the hard bit!
I’ll see what M&S have, and Berghaus is a good make so might see if I can find something that they do. It needs to be fully rainproof and warm as he can’t cope with being wet or cold (or both!).

Berghaus is a good choice and pretty cheap compared to the rest. Napapijri is quite popular at DS’ school but north face is the number 1 choice.
