Suggestions for Year 12 in NW London/Herts

For various reasons my dd has not been able to start Year 12 this year so we are looking to apply for next year.

Her GCSE results were five 6s, two 5s, one 4 and one 3 (6s in Maths, English x 2 and Science).

She wants a school rather than a college and is looking to do A Levels in Sociology, Psychology and one other.

So far I have considered Bushey Meads, Dame Alice Owens and JCoss. Can be either state or private but the private schools I've looked at so far have very high entry requirements which she doesn't have. Would we have a problem with state schools as she is out of year group?

Any suggestions please? We are on the border of Harrow/Barnet/Hertfordshire but could also travel more into London on the Jubilee line.

Bishop’s Hatfield could work? I don’t know the entry requirements though.

To save some time, look at a range of schools' admissions policies for year 12 entry. If the school doesn't specifically state that it will only accept direct entry from year 11 and not those who have had a gap or are wanting to restart their A level course (which schools you can obviously discount), then the best thing would probably be to contact the Admissions Officer / Head of Sixth Form to discuss your DD's situation.

One of the grammar schools near us has (or at least used to have) a reputation for being sympathetic towards 'restarts', although I must admit that although I know a few who did this, either as internal students or 'movers in', I can't think of anyone who joined year 12 a year down without having been in education elsewhere for the proper year. However, a friend of DD's was accepted elsewhere for a restarted year 12 having completed less than half of the year at another school. Unfortunately, neither of these schools would be any use to you geographically, but it probably is possible for upur DD to do what she wants / needs to do, somewhere.

Thank you, I’ve had a look at a few school websites but there are so many, I was wondering if anyone had any recommendations. Especially private schools that I may not have thought of.

Aldenham? Or St Margaret’s Bushey (was until recently all girls, now co-ed but I assume girls still the majority).

I thought DAO was pretty academic but I must confess I don’t know it so may be wrong.

You might find a private school is more flexible to your child being out of year group if you can choose either.
