Tiffin girls vs Nonsuch High

Hi,

I know there are old threads on comparing the two schools, but would be useful if anyone has girls at these schools that could give up to date/recent feedback on what these schools are like and their differences and any strengths and possible weaknesses?

I know they are both excellent schools and we are lucky enough to be in catchment for both and although the results are not out yet, it would be helpful to have any help from others on what the schools are like. My daughter is having difficulty in putting these two in the order she would like, one minute preferring Tiffin and then changing her mind. I don’t mind either and ultimately I want to leave the decision to her, but any info and knowledge that I can let her know about the schools would be useful. Both will have similar journey times.

Please if anyone has up to date knowledge, please post here.

Many thanks.

Did she pass the first stage exam to Nonsuch? How did the Tiffin exam went?

Chocmint67 · 08/10/2023 18:39

Yes she did. Haven’t got results from Tiffin yet, but it was hard

I would wait for the first round result as it may resolve the problem. But I wish you good luck on Tiffin exam too.
i would look at the commute time , pastoral care etc

Thanks. Yes, just wanted to prepare for all outcomes in advance

My daughter is year 8 at Nonsuch. She is enjoying it now but did have a slightly rocky start in year 7 and I am not a great fan of their pastoral care./ transition in year 7. It does seem better now and might be very dependent on the forum tutor / head of year i.e. highly variable. On the plus I think their extra-curricular activities are really great and the girls seem mostly very supportive of each other, though also quite competitive. That suits my daughter but not everyone.

I expect Tiffin is fairly similar and would probably select whichever is easiest to get to, if you have the choice. We are not in Tiffin catchment so I never looked at it.

Thanks @Nowconcerned Great to hear your thoughts on Nonsuch and glad to hear your daughter is enjoying it now.

My daughter's in y7 at TGS and we were also in a quandary about which to put first on our list. We went for TGS having just got a better feel on the open day, plus we were out of catchment for Nonsuch but I really did seriously consider changing our preferences after the deadline several times but worried about going to the back of the queue so we stuck with it.

Transition has been really well managed, lots of emphasis on settling in and no homework or behaviour points for the first 4 weeks. They did a nice team building trip to Thames Young Mariners and seem to make a point of focusing on pastoral care, with an hour's lesson a week covering it plus a whole "immersion day" where they are off timetable to focus on pastoral care - they did a lot on online safety and social media at their first one. There are loads of lunchtime and after school clubs.

Time will tell how things pan out, it is very early days but so far so good.

Nonsuch did write to us after national offer day to ask if we wanted to go on their waiting list but I think we're happy we stuck with our choice. I think they are both great schools so it's a hard choice to make!

Thanks for telling me about TGS @Outnumbered4321 I don’t know what to do, my DD now leaning towards putting Nonsuch first when she was going to put TGS first last week. Such a difficult decision, should she get the chance to put both down. We shall see.

Hi @Chocmint67

I wish your daughter all the very best for her school. You said you are in catchment area for both nonsuch and Tiffins. Can you mention the postcode? I am trying to figure out some postcodes which are common to both of them, since we are anyways planning to move around that area. Thanks in advance!

Chocmint67 · 17/01/2024 09:00

@Mum85Of2
not sure if I can post links here, but this is a useful thread that contains a link that someone has posted to a map which indicates which areas for Nonsuch and Tiffin.
