Depends where you live, Manchester is a large city!

Lleys · 06/10/2023 00:56

Sorry just read the OP!

We'll move near to a good school, so wanted to know where they are first. Likely south Manchester

Not grammar or independent, we don't mind a Christian faith school or a secular school

I don't have any direct experience, but Chorlton High school is meant to be good according to friends and I was impressed at their open day. Mine went to grammar though.

Look at Laurus Trust schools - Didsbury High, Cheadle Hulme High School.

Altrincham has some excellent comprehensives eg Wellington in Timperley but catchment is very small and shrinking.

I used to teach here, excellent school!

Locally to where I live though, there are excellent schools in Cheadle Hulme, Hazel Grove, Bramhall and Poynton, also 2 new schools, Didsbury High and Chorlton High South - both located in Chorlton.

ParrsWood. Amazing school. Massively diverse. Most extensive extra curricular with 60 clubs. Gets great results for all kids. Brilliant 6th form. Massive range of course options. Good sports facilities. Fantastic music Dept & drama. Loads of trips. Gifted & talented programmes

There are several Laurus Trust schools around but they are very much marmite. If you like Uber strict schools they are ok but often not great for any quirky kids and any with SEN. Lots of parents say they actually aren't as good as the glossy marketing in reality. Ask lots of questions about reality not sales pitch.

Chorlton / Chorlton South good too just less extra curricular than PW
Trinity in town always been v good but generally need faith points.
Burnage boys is excellent as are Levy & WR girls schools
