Secondary Schools - Amersham & Buckinghamshire

We are considering moving from Devon to Buckinghamshire, as my husband needs to be closer for his work (Watford). I have a DS (age 10) and a DD (age 7).

Obviously, the grammar schools have excellent reputations, but are very competitive. What are the locals secondary schools like, such as Amersham School?

Also, what are the local primary schools like, such as Little Chalfont Primary School? Are there any other primary schools I should consider? Are these oversubscribed?

Many thanks

Amersham School is very well thought if and an excellent option for those who don't do well in the 11 plus. Other upper schools (ie non grammar) schools aren't always great so you'd need to check previous years allocations to find a place to live that would put you close enough.
A lot of the local primary schools are excellent & over subscribed but I don't know any details.

Bucks posts it's school vacancies on its website, apparently updated weekly, so next list tomorrow, possibly.

@CasaMumma You need to look at the Bucks web site for rules around applying to the schools. I’m assuming your 10 year old is y6 so it’s vital you read the 11 plus and residency requirements. If you don’t meet them, the grammars will be very difficult to access. Ditto the Amersham School - it won’t have spaces after deadline date. Probably the same for The Misbourne at Great Missenden. Therefore it’s high risk for your 10 year old.

You could look at Ashlyn’s at Berkhamsted and Tring School in terms of deadlines for applications but if you don’t move soon, you will have issues and you might already be too late for the grammars.

Yes, Bucks does have school spaces on its web site. Not always updated weekly but it’s a decent enough indication. Around Amersham there won’t be many spaces as many schools are popular.
