Out of catchment for Canterbury Grammar schools

Hello

Has anyone managed to get a place in a Grammar school in Kent but lives outside of Kent?
We currently live in London.

How easy was the process and did your child/children settle ok?

I assume you're planning to move, because I thought my 1.5 hour bus journey to a Canterbury grammar each way was long 20 years ago!

Yes of course we are planning on moving.

Some Kent grammars offer out of area places to high scorers on 11+ but they tend to be nearer the county borders.

There is info on the KCC website, but also someone had this FOI request answered a few months ago wrt offers made this year. Remember that these figures will be before the appeals process was completed, so numbers actually starting in September will probably be different.

There are grammar schools in the wider area as well as Barton Court and Simon Langton Boys' and Girls' grammars, if you aren't restricted to Canterbury itself. Presumably you know that each school has its own admissions policy and oversubscription criteria - Kent having grammar schools everywhere, it's not just a question of getting the highest score in the Kent Test and you're assured of a place.

I would, of course look around the wider area at other grammars, I am open to any area really as long as the school is good (particularly nurturing) and we can move anywhere.
