Scotland high school… lack of challenge

Hi all

Ive a daughter who’s been in S1 in Scotland for about 3 weeks now. She told me last night she’s miserable and I don’t know what to do, if there is anything I can do.

Shes persistently complained of lack of challenge at school and I’ve seen this. I am not some arrogant parent - I think my other child is middle of the road and teachers have picked up on daughter being ahead at some points.

I thought this would get better at high school but it’s not. She’s complaining of being bored. She also complains of friendship issues (she’s gone to the same high school as all of her friends bar one who I think had her place withdrawn on first day of term due to catchment fraud) but these are variable and I think closer to normal teen issues and even she recognises this. Complaining of being bored is persistent.

does this get better? I’m wondering if I picked the wrong school for her, but I’m not sure if it would just be the same everywhere. I’d be pissed off if I went to a work place where I was bored all day every day.

It will get harder in the next couple of years

Not until s3 then? Is this the same everywhere?

I don’t know but I know my son wasn’t challenged until about S3. He was always high achieving but he has to study hard and is averaging about 75% in tests now
