Eng GCSE grade oddities

DD consistently pulled 9s in her English Language mocks but has come out with a 6 in her results yesterday. She said she’d thought the exams went well. I am requesting copies of the papers to see if there is anything glaringly odd going in. Is it worth asking for a review? It just seems so odd.
Didn't get chance to talk to school staff in the bedlam yesterday.

Just received an email from my ds school saying that they want to get my ds Geography papers re marked for free. Wasn't expecting that. Very close to next grade but he's still passed.

Our school seems to be getting a mass review of computer science papers.

No English reviews back other than the first 10 or so that went up a grade.

History CIE reviews also not back (submitted on realised day).

Anyone else sit the English version of WJEC English Lang? Eduqas l? my DD scores we thought were a bit odd but have now worked out one paper had a 1.5x weighted score which she was never told! Luckily that paper had a higher mark but she still missed a G6 so wondering if to get it looked at.

Early reviews seem to come back more quickly before the rush begins. I wonder if they are also done more carefully. Good luck to those of you who are waiting.

How far was your DC off the next grade? We had a similar result for my DS AQA English lit 71 in one paper and 38 in the other. V unusual for DS to get such a low mark but about 9 marks off the next grade so haven’t submitted for a review.

My DC was only a couple of marks off the next grade but turned out to be irrelevant as went up by more than 20 marks.

Is it too late to look at the scripts? I was fairly confident that his mark wasn’t right after doing so.

We have had loads go up now - they're coming in daily. Put in for review if there is a discrepancy.

Hmm that’s interesting @womblemum as it’s same exam board my DD missed her G6 on but I think she’s sitting in middle of G5 so we not sure about risking the drop as well. She got G6 on Eng Lit. Both were grades lower than expected but her friend who sits next to in class failed.

@Sadtimes1 my dd (also AQA English Lit) got 27 for Paper 1 and 69 for Paper 2 which is a 6 overall. We are waiting for the result of Paper 1 review to come back. Not sure how far this is from a grade 7, does anyone know?

@bendmeoverbackwards i think grade 7 AQA English lit, if it’s the same one, was 102 for a grade 7. Just looked and my DS is 10 marks off an 8, that’s why we hadn’t really looked at it but it all seems very odd.

Thanks @Sadtimes1 so my dd is 6 marks off a 7 so not too hopeful. Although I've seen instances of where whole sections of the paper haven't been marked so maybe she'll be lucky. I was surprised she did worse in Paper 1 actually, I think poetry was her weaker area which was in Paper 2.

@bendmeoverbackwards 🤞. Have you or the teacher had a look at the paper. I wonder if it was something with paper 1 as we both have the same experience.

Another AQA English literature discrepancy between paper paper and paper 2. My daughter has got 36 in paper 1 and 60 in paper 2. In the marking of paper 1 there are question marks.I am not sure why

The English teacher has not reviewed the marked paper. We have asked the review of paper 1

We had a 'discrepancy' in my son's AQA English language paper 2 as he'd scored high marks in the first few questions and 19/40 for the persuasive writing.

Frankly that was generous, having read it, and I think he was very lucky to get an 8...!

I've looked over about 60 papers at school so far, either because I thought there was a potential discrepancy or because the candidate requested because them they were close to a boundary.

At the last count, I've recommended 4 go to review. None of them are boundary scripts.

First Eng lit paper review came back with no change (one mark off an 8 overall) so will review the other paper.
