What last minute preparations should we concentrate on for Sutton and Tiffin exam?

Pray

Make sure they’ve practiced a timed paper. Might also be good to practice doing one paper immediately after the other.

But otherwise, concentrate on gaining marks. That means concentrating on any questions they can’t do; it’s better to work on any weak areas than do yet another practice paper.

At this point start Atom learning. The first stages for both schools are MCQ so just get pounding through them. Analyse each test and you can see where he’s dropping marks and which questions he’s taking longest over.
As soon as stage 1 has finished, start concentrating on longer form papers and creative writing

We did not prep for those schools, but did for private. My dd started late in the game, but what we did was use Atom and made sure she had well above the marks she needed to get into her target schools. Because she reached the marks we were relaxed in our prep, but if she did not reach the marks, I would get her to prep more and if dc was not reaching the needed marks, I would not have applied to the schools.

Why put your child through this? So much pressure.

@SamPoodle123 (or others) I'm trying to understand the pass marks in Atom. If the pass marks for Tiffin Boys 2024 are 104 (https://tiffinschool.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/Patterns-of-Admissions-2023.pdf) then you compare that 104 to the SAS value in the Mock Tests tab of Atom?
(English SAS + Maths SAS) divided by 2.

Is that it? Is 104 the correct number? Seems low (close to the average of 100)

For sutton I found these 2020 values as a reference:
https://www.whatdotheyknow.com/request/cut_off_score_2020_first_stage
Wallington County Grammar School 213.9
Sutton Grammar School 213
Wilson’s School 213
Nonsuch High School for Girls 205
Wallington High School for Girls 205
Greenshaw High School 198

I would ask Atom if they can give an indication. But just and FYI the exam is more difficult then Atom…esp stage 2!

Secondaryspectator · 25/01/2025 17:20

It’s all about speed in these 2 exams having written this year. You snooze you loose. Majority of paper isn’t complex. Ofcourse tiffins is harder than sutton

DS said stage 2 was quite difficult and the practice papers looked VERY difficult as well. Of course at the start there are some easy questions...but the last half very difficult

It is not worked out like that..

It is all standardised and difficult to say how they work it out. There is no relationship between the SAS of Atom (apart from if you have a high SAS score you might also get a high score on test at Tiffin) and the cut off score for Tiffin's in the way you describe here.
