Do you have to apply to sit the 11+ in west Berkshire or is it automatically organised by the school?

we are on a boundary so kids go to Hampshire school but we live in west Berkshire any idea if it’s too late?

Some info about Berks 11 plus is here:

I’m not familiar with the Berks set-up but I’d be very surprised if schools automatically entered children (and if this were the case surely they would have told you). Secondary applications are as far as I know always the parents’ responsibility. Sorry.

You normally register for a specific school test and/or one used by several schools. Schools won't organise it and some deadlines may have passed.

ladyvivienne · 19/08/2023 19:10

I would imagine the deadline has well passed. It's in May for grammar schools around here. The exam is in 2 weeks time.

Helpmegetajob · 19/08/2023 19:16

i was so preoccupied that I completely missed the deadline

what I’ve read just now is it closed end of June! I don’t think there is anything I can do now 😕

If you are planning for 2024 entry yes you are too late. Exams are in 2 and a half weeks and have been organised months ago.

FaceLikeCattle · 20/08/2023 18:57

We are not in that area but I applied for my child too late for the 11+ last year, and they still accepted her. The chances might be small, but it wont hurt to contact them and ask, you never know.

woodlands01 · 21/08/2023 09:27

I teach in West Berkshire - which school are you looking at? I am not aware of any requiring 11+ for entry

Ellmau · 23/08/2023 10:48

No grammars in west Berks or Hampshire. Are you looking at Reading/Kendrick?

Helpmegetajob · 23/08/2023 21:24

Thank you all, Sorry it would be for reading grammar.

I may contact them and see if they will accept but it’s so late

You can only ask but you're almost two months late and the exam is in a couple of weeks, so you may have to prepare for disappointment.

It says on the website:

*A registration after the closing date for registering for tests will only be accepted for the entrance tests where
the school is satisfied that illness, bereavement or other exceptional circumstance beyond the control of the
parents prevented a timely registration, or the child moved into the area after the closing date for test
registration. Evidence will be required in these circumstances. Late notification of the testing timetable by a
child's current school or otherwise will not be accepted as a reason why timely registration was not possible. *
