October and Feb Year 13 - okay to go away for half term?

I know going away in the Easter hols is a bit of a no-no. What about Oct in year 13 - is my (hard working but prone to getting v stressed) year 13 going to be super-stressed if we go on a family holiday for one or both October half term weeks? Also what about Feb half term the term after? Any mners who have dcs who have already done A-levels who can give me some insight?

Are A-level mocks on the school calendar ?

Bigbadmama · 04/04/2023 20:22

I agree with @WheelsUp. Wait to see when your school sets mock exams. and don't consider going away if they are one or two weeks after half term.

Ah good point - I hadn't realised there might be mocks after the Oct half term!

As per others - it really depends on your DC's exam schedule.

My DC's school has mocks in early November and early March. They would not have wanted to go away for either half term, but we could have managed a short break at Christmas. But plenty of schools have mocks in January, so that would rule out Christmas.

Also, think about any NEAs - if he has a submission date just after any holiday, he's likely not to want to go away. Similarly if he's doing anything like an EPQ - when are the submission dates?

dc both had mocks after the Feb half term so that was a definite no....

we Will be going away for one week in October half term as dd has two weeks off but will be home for Xmas, Feb and Easter holidays.

also depends on your child. Are they organised enough to know they have an NEA due early November and get the work done before they go away? Are they prone to stress and overwork and enforced breaks might be more positive for them than more time revising? What grades do they need and how far off them are they?
