Who represents the school at an admissions appeal?

I'm appealing for a y7 place. Will the school representative be the Headteacher? A governor/trustee? A senior teacher? An administrator? Or does it vary from school to school?

It varies. Occasionally it's the Head, but not often. Sometimes an Assistant/Deputy Head. Sometimes it's a Governor, especially I find at religious primaries. Quite often they buy in an external rep - there are 2/3 I see quite regularly now.

It was an assistant head when I had mine.

In my experience, it’s been the LEA’s head of school admissions or a member of the SLT. It’s never (again, in my experience) been a governor or hired representative.

In my area all the secondaries are academies, so it's unlikely to be a LEA representative.

Exactly. In my experience, academies have been represented by a member of the SLT while the others have been represented by the LEA official, occasionally with someone (again usually a member of the SLT) from the school.

No-one at ours
that is the la standard- maintained school and admissions do it

AnyOldThings · 24/03/2023 17:21

My school was an academy and Head always went

Who would be likely to do it for a faith school who has outsourced the appeals process to the LEA?

kriminalelement · 24/03/2023 21:37

If they outsource appeals to the LEA it means the LEA provide the appeal panel, not the school rep.

The school rep will probably depend on what type of faith school it is:

  1. Faith Academy: School leader or Trustee/Governor
  1. Voluntary Aided: School leader or governor
  1. Voluntary Controlled: LEA rep, school leader or governor

OK great, that's fine. Thank you.
