Hello looking for any tips opinions or ideas on secondary school options near and around Bridgwater and Taunton.

My DD goes to a village school and we’re in the catchment for Haygrove. It’s recently ofsted good and I’m sure my eldest will do just fine there. she is in year 3 from September. We have another daughter starts school September.

It seems like such a way off but I can help start to plan now. We are also considering the nearby private schools. We visited Taunton on the weekend and it seemed great. Also like to visit Wellington and Kings. If we want to consider this we will need to start planning financially now-ish to make it happen. It’s a huge financial commitment. We’re not rich!

I know every school is different as is every child. Our eldest is very good academically, and loves ballet. I would love it that her love of learning and being good at things like maths is nurtured not squashed (I’m thinking back to my state school where if you were good you were a geek and sort of picked on). For me it’s less about academic results, and more about going to school and being your own true self and (mostly - I’m realistic!) enjoying it.

Anyone got any recent experience of these schools? Good bad or know of current reputation? Haygrove? Taunton? Wellington? Kings? Queens?

also if anyone can tell us anything about bursary or scholarships? There seems to a lot of mystery around these (I will just ask about it at some point) so not sure if we could realistically get access to them or if they really help financially or otherwise.

Thaank you for any helpful comments you can share! Really appreciate it!

Would highly recommend Wellington - warm, friendly and family orientated. Treats students as individuals and really gets to know them. Great all round school.

I attended Taunton. I hope things have changed as it was a miserable existence.
